I bought a bikini….yes….I bought a bikini

Holiday time = Summer

I was on the Gold Coast in Queensland for Christmas with some of my family a few years ago when I decided I’d buy a bikini.

I hadn’t worn a bikini in years & didn’t stop to think if I really should be wearing one just yet – but too bad!! I am at that age that I don’t really care too much about what others think. (Maybe that’s a tiny, little bit untrue).

At the time, I was undertaking a 12 week health challenge and it had started off well but then we were into the holiday season.  This was a worry, due to being away from my normal routine plus the extra temptation of all the Christmas foods.

But I was determined to stick to healthy choices, combined with early morning walks with my mother & daughter, running on the beach, swimming, shopping and relaxing.   Summer in Australia means hot sunny days, beach holidays, family, Christmas and eating lots of food. – some of which isn’t too good for you.

On our first morning, I was awake very early, due to Queensland not having daylight saving time. As the sun came up and into our room at about 4.45am, I decided to get up and go out for a run. As you do!

I normally run on my own, on bush tracks with flies & cicadas as a chorus accompanying me, so to have the gorgeous Surfers Paradise as my running track was an amazing change. I joined the throngs of people walking and running on the beach at 5.30 in the morning and did my Monday morning workout in ‘paradise’.

Bikini Time

I had the great idea of buying a bikini while I was out running, so before my courage left me I went & bought one! The sales lady was mature aged, very helpful, and I’d like to think she was honest in her appraisal of my choices. I feel very summery and not at all out of place up here. Wearing it in downtown Tumbarumba maybe a completely different matter!!

  2. Good for you! You know I’ve never worn a bikini even when I was really thin. I guess in my culture it is not too common for a woman to wear bikinis unless she has a private pool. I do have some nice one piece swimsuits though. 🙂

  4. I was about to write that I haven’t worn a bikini for over 40 years until I recalled that I had no choice but to buy one in Phuket one time when my luggage was delayed in Dubai. It got a couple of outings until my sturdy well-engineered one piece (& my luggage) arrived.

  8. Hi Deb – I wasn’t even aware of blogs back in 2013! I hope that bikini is still in your wardrobe and gets taken out for a swim or two each Summer. I haven’t owned a bikini for many a long year – I did love them in my younger (pre-poochy) days though.

    1. Thanks Sue! It was an old post that I wrote on a previous (now extinct blog about my body transformation process) . I figured I might as well dust it off and use it for #Lifethisweek . I’ll definitely meet you up there one day. I think it was the colours that drew me to the bikini in the first place 🙂
