Challenge accepted – Blogging 201

I am a sucker for challenges it seems…so here I am embarking on another blogging challenge which I hope will build on the Zero to Hero challenge that I did in January this year.

The first thing we are to do is look at our goals and to think about the reasons why we blog.  In the Zero to Hero challenge I wrote this post in response to a similar question.

In thinking about my 3 main goals I would like to:

  1. Increase my interaction with other bloggers this year.  We all need to move out of our own heads at times and see what others are doing as we can learn so much.  We tend to become too focussed on our own work that we forget to make time to read and comment on other blogs.  I believe community is an important part of blogging. This includes getting more commenting happening as it is so useful to hear from others and to make comments on other blogs.
  2. Become more proficient at the art of blogging, things like tagging, using various formats, understanding the stats and how to make them work for me.  This really is for the duration of the challenge (and beyond).
  3. Improve my time management skills – it is so easy to get lost in time while blogging and unfortunately I don’t have endless time available so I need to become better at accessing the information I need. I aim to spend an hour a week reading other blogs and commenting which relate directly to goal number 1.

I know these aren’t too concrete but they do give me some idea of where I’m heading. Thanks for reading my blog and I look forward to catching up with many of the other bloggers on this challenge with me.

Sounds like a great challenge and something I might be interested in. Whose challenge is it? Do you have a link to the challenge?

Hi Deb – I see that I am already following you, but I haven’t been *reading* you because Reader hasn’t been posting your blogs! [grumble] So now, I will follow you by email, and wish you well on the Blogging 201 – I’m in the challenge, too.

So, please allow me to help you meet your first goal of more interaction!

Thanks for the comment Maggie! I don’t understand how the reader works sometimes but am glad you will be able to follow me regardless. Looking forward to what this challenge will bring up and will follow you with interest too. I’m all for interacting and connecting!!

    Hi Deb
Your blog looks great! I’m afraid mine looks a bit staid. What do you think? 😉

Thanks for your comment! I think your blog looks interesting and is easy to read. I found that changing the background made a difference, so maybe you could try that first to see if you think it makes a difference to how you feel about it. Good luck!

Hi Debz, Thanks for that advice. I may try some different backgrounds, or do you mean ‘themes’?

        • April 18, 2014 at 8:04 pm

Well a new theme is one option but just customising the colours and backgrounds of your current theme might give you a bit of a lift. On the dashboard I went to Appearance and played around with colours and backgrounds. I didn’t have to save any of the changes but could have a play around and see how they looked. Have fun!

Thanks a lot for your advice. I’m learning slowly but surely. 🙂
