Victory – Final MOB update

Final update from the Mother of the Bride (aka MOB)

THE WEDDING of the year (2015) has been and gone. It was beautiful, amazing and everything we could have wished for.  I’m happy but also sad – if that makes sense.

We had the wedding over the course of a weekend with the majority of guests staying on site.  The ceremony was held in the beautiful gardens under a huge old tree, followed by group photos, then afternoon tea was served in the garden.

The bridal party departed for their official photos and we all played games on the lawns while enjoying the warm sunshine and the great company.

Many of the guests had flown to Australia from the UK for the wedding, as well as from all parts of Australia and everyone enjoyed the relaxed nature of the day and the lovely surroundings.

The bridal party returned and had a tussle of Kubb (a Swedish game of some significance) which the girls won!

Savouries were served on the lawns and soon afterwards we were all seated in the delightfully decorated marquee. Speeches and some formalities were undertaken before the band got underway and had everyone on their feet singing and dancing the night away.

Here are a few of my highlights:

  • Waking up on Wedding Day to hear my three daughters giggling together in bed
  • Waking up to a sunny day after days of rain 🙂
  • Having all our three daughters at home with us before the wedding
  • Seeing my husband proudly walk our daughter down the aisle
  • Everyone says it will all come together… and it does
  • Having support and encouragement from a special friend who has been through it all before – she was a wealth of knowledge and common sense
  • Sharing the special day with so many family and friends who had travelled from all over the world to be with us was just magical
  • Picking rose petals from our garden with my husband just minutes before leaving for the ceremony, it was a gorgeous heady mix of colours and scents and they were then used after the ceremony.  Everyone took a handful and threw them over the Bride & Groom on their way up the aisle!
  • Seeing my daughter look so stunningly beautiful and just so happy
  • Welcoming our first son-in-law to our family
  • It was stressful and all-consuming but I’d do it all again
  • I wish we could have the day over again – it all went too fast!
  • Wearing a delightful purple outfit when everyone expected me to wear orange

There are many other thoughts running through my head as it’s been a very busy time for us.  We have had 2 weeks off with our eldest daughter who was home from the UK for the wedding.  We have organised, delivered, setup, cleaned up….the list goes on but it has been a very enjoyable time.  We have had a few special days with her before putting her on the plane to return to her UK life and so it’s just us at home again.  Our lives return to normal this week and I’m sad that all the excitement is over.

There are many more photos floating around, plus the official photos are still to come, the ones I have used here are just a taste of what the day held for us. I honestly can’t say that I took all the photos in my gallery but I’m happy to share them 🙂

As you may know from my previous MOB updates,  the B2B, was also due to finish her Masters Degree, at the same time as her wedding. I am happy to announce that she finished it but she cut it very fine!

I’m submitting this for the week’s photo challenge Victory In your photo this week, focus on the win, the victory — that moment of glory and pride you’ll remember forever. I believe there’s nothing so positive and victorious as a wedding AND a happy, proud Mother of the Bride!

The photo of the back-lit dress was actually taken by my eldest daughter on the morning of the wedding. She was sharing the room with her sister (the bride) and woke up to see the dress hanging partly in its bag, with the sunlight streaming in behind it.  She captured the image immediately, telling her sister how simply stunning and beautiful it looked. I have to agree with her!

I have thoroughly enjoyed my MOB experience and thank you all for following along. Thanks to the beautiful bridesmaids who have encouraged me in this process and were so good at keeping B2B calm and on track throughout the past few months. We now have a lovely son-in-law as part of our family as well as his extended family. We welcomed them all to our family during the weekend of celebrations and look forward to staying in contact despite them living on the other side of the world.

That’s a wrap!

Deb 🙂

  1. How sweet to share your MOB experience, Debbie! Glad to read this. Your purple dress was stunning and looked perfect amongst the bridesmaid’s dresses! You look so happy! I was the BMOB (bonus mom) last August for my step-daughter’s wedding and wore an older ill-fitting dress! If my daughters ever get married, I will have to think about a bold color!

    1. Many thanks Terri 🙂 I was VERY happy at the time and embraced being MOB with every fibre in my being! Purple was such a great colour for me on the day despite not really being a fan beforehand.

    1. Thanks Sue, I’m glad the joy is so evident as it was just that sort of day 🙂 It all went by far too quickly and I know what you mean with so many decisions needing to be made and now it’s all over. I’m very proud! Congrats to you all too.

  3. It was a wonderful day, and one of the proudest moments of my life, I being the MOG! ( Mother of the Groom ) Thank you Debbie and Grant for welcoming Ben into your family, it means a great deal to me knowing that he has the support of Sarah, and her loving family especially as the rest of his family, myself, his Dad, Sister, Nephews and Niece are all so far away.

    1. Thanks so much Annie!! I’ve been too busy to get around to blogging lately but really wanted to do a final wrap. It was just perfect and so so beautiful. How are things with you? Have you had your daughters wedding yet? Xx

        1. Take it easy!! It does all come together in the end. I doubted that it would but I’m happy to say it all fell into place (probably due to my obsessive planning). Thinking of you. 😊
