Strong Women

Strong Women – feeling inspired

Have you ever read a post and felt so inspired that you had to get out of your chair and do something?

I had that feeling over the weekend. After I read this post, Trying at a tri, from my blogging friend Annie from Unsporty Women Can Run, I went and got changed and went out for a run.

Despite the fact that it was still over 30C degrees at 6pm, I ran (and walked a bit) through the forest all the while thinking of what Annie had written.  Her story and her attitude are amazing and I always get a boost when she writes about her running.  As a runner, I am not in her league at all, but I can relate to so much of what she says. She’s one strong woman!

This quote from her post sums it up for me, even though there’s no way I will ever run a triathlon or a half marathon. I feel the same way about running and am so grateful that my slowly ageing body can do this.

I’m so glad I kept a happy attitude out there on the run.  What’s not to be happy about?  I am healthy and fit.  I can run a half marathon in the heat just like that, perhaps not fast, but I get it done.  Running is a gift, a precious gift.

I choose to run because I love it and I will shamelessly take every opportunity given to me.  Because it makes me feel alive.  Because as I went through each lap and received those colourful bands I chose to feel like a winner.  I have beaten that Unsporty Woman who thought running was too hard.  I win each time I put on my shoes and go for a run.

Always, each and every day, I am grateful for a body that can run.

Run Debbie Run!

So out I went and I ran, not fast and definitely not pretty, but smiling to myself all the way.  Although I might run alone, I’m not really alone.  There are others out there, like me, and  I take what support and encouragement I can from them.

Other strong women.

People like Annie with such a fun spirit, who inspire me to continue trying and persevering.  So thank you Annie at Unsporty Women Can Run for reminding me of what I sometimes take for granted.

Of course I also paused to take some photos of my forest run.

After I got home, all red faced and sweaty, my husband asked me if I’d like to go for a quick bike ride before dinner.  It was so hot still but the movement while riding was just delightful. All I needed now was a swim leg and I would have done a mini triathlon as per Annie’s post!

As it’s International Women’s Day today I also want to thank all the strong women I’ve had as role models throughout my life.

I love this quote and added it to one of my favourite photos with my three strong daughters. It seems very appropriate today.

    1. Hi Kate, it’s part of State Forests in Tumbarumba in southern NSW. Thanks for visiting my blog, the bootcamp sounds like it will be a good opportunity to meet other bloggers and improve our commenting skills.

  1. Totally agree, that Annie is inspiring as well as being lovely and amazing. Her positive attitude is one that is slowly rubbing off on me. I am pleasantly surprised that my body puts up with the adventures that my brain puts it forward for, long may this continue. Heres to strong women, may we all continue to rock for many years!
