What’s behind you?

If you had a choice to use the hotel’s fitness centre, (which just happened to be right opposite your hotel room) or go out into the city of Sydney for an early morning run/walk, what would you choose?

I chose to go out into the city at the crack of dawn and left the delights of the fitness centre behind me.  I wanted to take in the sights and sounds of the city.  I always do this when I’m in the city so it was a no brainer for me. But maybe you would have answered differently – there’s nothing wrong with that.  I just happen to enjoy soaking up the city vibe whenever I can, as it is so far removed from my usual country lifestyle, as to make me think I’ve landed on a different planet sometimes.

The sights of Sydney are well worth seeing and it has a lot of history behind it. Here are a few shots from my morning’s outing which fit in with the theme of behind.

Queen Mary 2
The city of Sydney is behind the Queen Mary 2 which is is behind the ferry

The Sydney Harbour Bridge rises up behind the two little ferries

These old city steps have a lot of history behind them

The sun is rising behind the Cathedral and lighting up the windows from the outside
behind the barrier
In the rush hour queue at the train station, everyone is behind each other and behind the barriers
Opera House

I am also using this post for Hugh’s Weekly photo challenge Week 16:Behind  You could also say that these photos are in front of each other, it’s just a different perspective I suppose.

Thanks Hugh for the opportunity to share my photos from my walk this morning and I hope you enjoyed seeing some of Sydney’s icons with me.

Would you have left the hotel fitness centre behind too?

Debbie

    1. That’s my pleasure Hugh. You know I nearly didn’t include that one of the church because I wasn’t happy with the light, but I kept coming back to it because I loved the orange light in the windows lit up from behind! I’m so glad I went with it after all.

        1. Thank you for the honour Hugh! I’m thrilled 😊😊. It’s great being involved in these challenges to meet others and see so many different interpretations. Thanks again.

  1. I would’ve come out for a run with you Debbie. Actually I would have walked! Nothing beats getting out and about and exploring a new city, even if we’ve been there before. Lovely photos and a great take on Hugh’s “behind” theme as well.

    1. Thanks for that Miriam, you would have been most welcome! I probably walked more than I ran due to the number of people about. It’s always a treat for me to see the sights and I never tire of them. Glad my photos worked for the theme.

  2. It would’ve depended on the weather. My friend Jeannie was in Sydney yesterday and I can see by her pictures that the weather was beautiful. However if it has been 3°C and heavy rain like we had here yesterday, I would’ve used the gym😀. Perhaps I’ll get to make that choice one day😊

    1. Yes that is very true. The weather plays an important role in making such a decision! I was lucky as it was very warm, so I didn’t have that issue to consider. Hopefully one day you get to make that choice too. 😊☀️ always nice to hear from you.
