Contemplation – Week 6: six things worth saving

Hello again!

While out doing hill sprint intervals this morning at sunrise (I know I’m mad but I am in training so I need to get it done) I contemplated desleyjane’s latest prompt from her Kikki.K, A Sentence a Day journal.   This week the prompt is:

What are you saving for?

I’m going to turn this around a bit which I hope is allowed!   I thought hard about this and came up with 6 things that I am trying to save, not save for necessarily but just save.  Here’s my list:

  1. I’m trying to save the world – not the whole world but the bits that I can help out with and how I am doing this is by being a member of Rotary International.  This gives me local and international community connections, I know that whatever money or time I donate will be used for the betterment of the world, its people and the planet.  It doesn’t cost me much really and I enjoy interacting with others throughout the world who are tying to do the same thing.  Little by little, bit by bit! Rotary is all about ‘Service Above Self’ and about ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
  2. I’m saving my life – by trying to keep active in mind and body.  I often explain that blogging is a form of therapy for me (check out my recent post blogging thoughts). I am continuing to keep physically active with regular walks, runs, gym work and cycling without overdoing it.   I have just entered two 5km running events in a few months time and am working on improving my times and my performance.  I’m hoping that all this will bode well for my future old age in that I can keep feeling fit and healthy for years to come.
  3. I’m saving my sanity by dumping toxic people and negative issues from my life and concentrating on the positives. Friendships, family and community issues are all included in this broad area.
  4.  I’m saving for holidays, for our retirement and for my daughters.  We love to travel so that is on the agenda over the next few years and we want to be able to help our daughters out whenever we can.
  5.  I’m trying to save my job and the jobs of my colleagues. I’m desperately hoping that Education isn’t sold out to the lowest bidder over the next few months.  Otherwise I might have to retire earlier than I thought!
  6.  I’m saving my thoughts, my photos, my stories and my memories.  I do this by blogging, writing, photographing, sharing and talking to anyone and everyone.  My husband and I love making photo books of our travels, our daughters’ birthdays, special family events, weddings – these will one day be seen as vital in remembering who we were, what was special to us and how we lived our lives.

contemplationSo there you have 6 things  that I’m saving or trying to save.  What would your list look like? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

You can find desleyjane’s post here: Contemplation – week 6, and anyone is welcome to join in her blogging challenge by sharing your response and linking back to her post.  It’s fun to think about things and to see how others have interpreted the prompt. I also like that it’s not photo based and it allows me to think, write and post as I see fit!

Thanks Desley for this opportunity to stop for a moment and to just contemplate.  It’s been very beneficial.

Deb x
