Contemplation – Week 14: Challenges

Hello!

I really enjoy Desleyjane’s weekly contemplation posts as they make me think about things – which I suppose is what contemplation is all about!  Each week desleyjane gives us a prompt from her journal and this week it is:

What challenge did you overcome today?

contemplation

I admit to feeling very challenged lately, about all sorts of things.  My challenge is to try not to let things get to me too much.  This is much easier said than done as I’m sure you can imagine.

I love a good challenge but sometimes they can come too much and all at once, as has happened recently.  I have been very low and only this week a friend commented on how nice it was to have me ‘back’ – she meant that I’m now acting more like my old self again.  It was interesting that I hadn’t thought my low mood was quite so obvious but apparently it was! I have been told that I wear my heart on my sleeve and I really don’t hide my emotions too well.

But I’m back and there’s no stopping me….except this week I’ve had a sore knee and haven’t been able to run as much as I want to.  I’m in training for the Run Melbourne 5km event in July and need all the training I can get.  The weather is also a challenge as it’s been very wet and wintery which makes it hard to get outside for a run, even if I didn’t have a sore knee.  Maybe I should be pleased that my knee is sore while the weather is so bad, as it means I have to rest. So by the time my knee improves, the weather may be better and I will be able to get out there! See I’m already trying hard to turn things around.

I love this quote which I found and applied to one of my photos –  it sums it up very well for me! Let me know what you think. Do you run away from challenges or face up to them?

So to answer the original question, I suppose I could say that I’m challenging myself to treat challenges in a different way from now on!

Enjoy the week ahead 🙂

  1. Oh Deb, great post. I’m glad you’re feeling better. I really understand what you’re saying. The challenges can seem huge when there are a lot of them at once. I hope your knee improves quickly. My colleague and I built a bunch of shelving in the office yesterday and I’ve strained my lower back (again) so I’m going to have to rest it for a couple of days. If you have time for a coffee when you’re in Melbourne, let me know! Although I’m away the first two weeks… x

    1. Thanks for the comment, I really enjoy the act of contemplation so thank you! I do hope your back improves soon too. I’m not doing too much (it’s still raining) so hopefully myknee is right in a few days.
I’d love to meet up with you in Melbourne, it’s not until 24 July 🙂

      1. Fabulous. I’ll be here then so just let me know when you’re free. How’s the knee? Will you be getting the cold snap coming through? We’re expecting very cold Friday and Saturday apparently.

        1. While I know it will be freezing I kind of wish there was snow here just for the novelty of it. But I fear I have to drive a long way to see it and I’m just not that motivated lol. Am glad your knee is improving.

  2. Good to hear you are on the way back to being you. That would say that while the recent challenges have been HUGE, you have found a way to navigate them. Someone at work asked me how things were with the milk price and after a general discussion I laughed and said ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but I think I’m strong enough now’. As in I’ve had enough of hard times and challenges. Some how we keep finding a new way to work around challenges. Here’s to always finding a way and here’s to never letting things change who we are. I love your blog Debbie, it’s always so upbeat no matter what’s going on. I find it really encouraging. All the best with Run Melbourne. Louise is going over for it and I’m so tempted, I love that event. I hope the sore knee gets better and that the sun comes out for your training and for everything xxx

    1. Thanks so much for your lovley comment Annie, it makes me so happy that others can relate to what’s happening. I really enjoy my blog as an outlet and can be myself, share whatever I want and not be judged. I am generally a positive person so find it hard to be down too long. We are all going through things and I agree with you, it does make us stronger and we keep finding ways to cope. I suppose the alternative isn’t an option! You have been in my thoughts in relation to the milk prices so I do hope things work out for you. I’m looking forward to Melbourne but need to get out for a few more runs. All the best for the Gold Coast marathon soon, I know you’ll blitz it xx
