iPhriday and World Smile Day

It’s iPhriday as well as World Smile Day

Making one person smile can change the world. Maybe not the whole world but their world. Start small. Start now!

I learnt today that World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday in the month of October every year. That means it’s today, 7 October. The idea of World Smile Day was coined and initiated by Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts. Harvey Ball is known to have created the Smiley Face in 1963. The World’s first World Smile Day was held in the year 1999 and has been held annually since.

This afternoon my husband and I went for a walk through the forest and we came across this smiley face painted on the wall of a disused radio/police communication shed, which has been unused for many years. I thought this was a very fitting find for today’s World Smile Day. I called it serendipity smiles.

My family tease me about my ‘Debbie smiles’ as whenever a camera is nearby I pull out a big smile regardless of what I’m doing. So you can imagine how much I love the idea of World Smile Day. I made it my mission today to smile at everyone.  It’s amazing what an effect a smile can have on people.
