MOB#2 update

My MOB badge

Greetings fellow bloggers!

You may not know but my MOB status has been restored with baby daughter’s wedding planned for October 2017  – in Fiji!   I’ve been told (by guess who?) that I’ve been very slack in keeping everyone up to date with news of this happy event. Hence this  post!!

In my last post, The MOB returnswe were in countdown mode with a year to go until the big day. Everything had been booked at the Outrigger Resort in Fiji and all I really had to do was buy a dress, book flights and accommodation.

Well I can happily report I have not only bought the dress, but also shoes, wrap, bracelet and earrings. In other words I’m all done!

As is often the case, I wasn’t intending to buy or even look for a dress last week when I went to the biggish smoke (city) nearby, but one thing led to another and amazingly I walked out with it all done!

My new dress is very simple, it’s bright and cheerful and says Fiji resort style.  Well not literally! It oozes style and reminds me of a pineapple in some ways.  I’m hoping it will be met with approval.  I bought it on my own with the help of another lovely (random) customer who took a great deal of interest in my choices.  She made me try them both on again and passed judgement on the brighter number saying it was more suitable for my complexion.  I asked (plaintively seeking honest feedback) if my arms weren’t too big and was my tummy not too sticky-out?  She assured me gently that my arms were lovely and brown and not too big for the sleeveless dress, my tummy was almost non-existent and sighed that if only she had my figure woes….I take it she thought I looked OK 🙂

So we played with some wraps in case it gets cold in Fiji (!!) and I bought a delicious olive green wrap which led to a delightful hand-made green glass bracelet and gorgeous drop earrings. Green is not one of my usual colour choices but I like it, just as purple wasn’t my favourite last time and I ended up loving my MOB outfit. My next decision was shoes – luckily for me just two shops away was a great shoe shop with a very helpful owner.  She also took great delight in helping me find the perfect shoes and I LOVE them!  They are also colourful with a slight heel, considering we will be on the beach they had to be beach-suitable. I almost went with a gold sandal but the brighter pair had the WOW factor.   As I was telling my husband gleefully about my purchases, he asked ‘don’t you  already have suitable shoes you could have worn?’    Three daughters, married to me for 37 years and still no idea!!

Here’s a sneak peek at my outfit:

It’s completely different organising a small, destination wedding.  There’s not a lot of the traditional things to do – no invites to send out (only immediate family are attending plus one set of friends), no table decorations to decide on, no wedding favours (bonbonniere) to create and no major decisions to occupy my time. There are certain administration paperwork that has to be done prior to the big day just as there is with any other wedding.  There are protocols in place for Australian couples to marry in Fiji so it is quite easy to follow the directions. I’m really enjoying the differences in wedding styles and feel very relaxed about it all. Maybe that’s just second time round but I’m so glad I get to experience both styles.  It’s so exciting and fun planning a wedding. 🙂

I’ve booked our flights and accommodation and we’re in contact with the resort re the last minute details closer to the day. They are providing a photographer, a celebrant, serenade singers and the reception. Older sisters will do B2B’s hair and makeup and I will cry happy tears on cue!

As per last time I will be attempting to:

  1. Decide on how I want my hair on the day.  I grew it a bit longer for wedding #1 but have since had it cut off.  I’m in regular contact with my hairdresser so between us we will have it under control.
  2. Grow my fingernails – they are going quite well and I’m happy to say I haven’t resorted to biting them!
  3. Lose some weight and firm up – now that I’m retired I’m enjoying more time to fit exercise into my day.
  4. Help out when asked – B2B lives interstate but we maintain contact by phone and often discuss plans  and keep each other updated.  B2B has excitedly rung me today to say she has bought her Wedding dress and she is very happy.  I have been privy to her choices and am thrilled with her choice.

OK so that’s where we’re at!  It’s all steam ahead to October 2017 – it will be here before we know it.  Starting to get excited 🙂

I’ll keep you posted.

    1. I’ve never been to Fiji either s it will be a new experience for all of us. The dress is very colourful and will suit the destination wedding very well I’m hoping.

    1. It’s a great little dress and completely different to my first MOB outfit. My girls weren’t surprised to hear that shopping story, it happens regularly 😊 I think I must be one of ‘those’ people.

    1. Thanks Louise – it’s a case of having to look for dresses now while summer stock is out otherwise I might not have been able to find anything in September – well that’s my thinking anyway!! I do like to be organised and seem to have lots of time on my hands for doing things at the moment 🙂 It’s a very tropical dress but has more yellow and orange than is actually visible. I’m glad you stopped by and look forward to hearing more. Thanks again.
