Share Your World – January 30 2017

I’m enjoying participating in Cee’s Share Your World.  It’s a great way to join with other bloggers to share our worlds.

This week’s questions are:

What is the most incredible natural venue that you’ve ever seen in person?

I am fortunate to have seen many incredible natural sights in the world but I’d have to say  my favourite place has been Uluru in the centre of Australia. It was inspiring, beautiful, amazing and incredible.  I have to admit that I hadn’t been to Uluru until just recently, despite it being in our own backyard. Here are a few of my favourite pics from our visit.

How many siblings do you have? What’s your birth order?

I have a younger sister (by 15 months) and a younger brother (by 4 years).  That makes me the first born.  My sister and I were very close and were dressed the same for years, so many people thought we were twins.  Despite being the eldest I am the smallest of all of us.  One day I hope to grow taller but I think the likelihood of that happening isn’t too good at this late stage!

If you were a shoe, what kind would you be and why?

Nothing with a high heel but something bright and comfortable, preferably orange!  Like this pair I own!

What is the strangest/weirdest thing you have ever eaten?

This question had me stumped…when we were little my grandmother asked us what we would like on our sandwiches for lunch. We replied, vegemite, peanut butter and honey.  So she made a sandwich with all these things together on the sandwich – not good!

Trekking in Nepal was interesting with the combination of foods as they were trying hard to make food that westerners would like.  It sometimes didn’t work but we were hungry enough so we ate whatever was offered.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

As always I’m grateful for a lot of things.  Last week we had my husband’s 60th birthday bash with friends and family. I arranged for our youngest daughter to fly down for the weekend as a surprise for my husband. So we had his parents, his sister, two of our daughters and the other daughter FaceTimed us during the party (from the UK) , so she was technically there as well. My sister and her husband also travelled to be with us.  It was a fabulous time.  As well as turning 60 my husband also retired from teaching on his birthday after 39 years, so I’m grateful we are in the position we are for our future.  I’m especially grateful for my family.

I also reached 1000 followers on my blog yesterday – so I’m very happy with that!  Thank you one and all 🙂

The week ahead – we’re away from home for a week and wouldn’t you know it the hot weather we’ve had has disappeared now that we are at the coast! We rode our bikes today in fine misty rain while back at home it was close to 40 degrees!!

I’m looking forward to working with my Rotary colleagues as we welcome back the Rotary Exchange students who have returned from a year overseas.  We will spend the weekend debriefing the students (and their parents) and hearing all about the adventures they had.

Enjoy your week ahead everyone!

Deb 🙂

  2. Ah Deb, your photos of Uluru just had me sighing wistfully. So beautiful and can’t wait to see it for myself in a few months. Congrats on your milestone, fantastic! Happy blogging. 😊

  3. When seeing the pictures of Uluru, I thought, “Wow, what a great climb that would be.” Then, I saw the comparison to the Eiffel Tower, and that thought flew out the window. Too high for me, but I’d still like to see it sometime. (As I don’t even have a Passport, it doesn’t seem too likely in this lifetime, but there are more ahead, right?)

  4. Well done on the 1000 follower threshold! Woohoo!

I’ve been to Uluru too – actually over 10 years ago. Hard to believe it was that long ago. I agree that it is one of the most awe-inspiring places I’ve ever visited.

Best wishes to you and your husband as you enjoy your retirement together 🙂

    1. Thanks very much Joanne! It does seem like a threshold for some reason doesn’t it? I loved our trip to Uluru and we will definitely go back one day soon. I’m glad yo hear you’ve been there too. Our future is in our hands now with us both retired so we will see what eventuates. Happy days 😊

  5. I love your shoes! And as for the sandwich; it reminded me that during my (necessarily brief) stint working in a bar someone asked for “beer, gin and tonic” … which although it did sound a bit odd, was exactly what I gave them. I think your granny and I might be kindred spirits 🙂

      1. Hehe. I’m always grateful to hear other people’s bar stories. I wasn’t a particularly good barmaid, probably because I only really drink wine. At one stage I worked in a rugby club where I’m not sure we even served wine. 🙂
