Share Your World – March 27 2017

It’s time again for Cee’s Share Your World.  Share Your World (SYW) is all about having a safe place for everyone to answer random questions that Cee posts each week.  Here is the basic format.

  • Answer four questions each week.
  • Bonus Question is always the same “What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?”  Because we all need to be reminded that there are many things in our lives to be grateful about.  

It’s a great way to join with other bloggers to share our worlds.  The idea is to answer without overthinking the questions and have some FUN. Feel free to join in by copying the questions, writing your answers in a new post and linking back to Cee’s original post.  I always have fun when I write these posts.

This week’s questions are:

Does your first or middle name have any significance (or were you named after another family member)?

My first name is Deborah, Debbie to my friends and Debs (to my daughters and special friends and that includes you!).  I have enjoyed reading posts about how people got their names and have been known to write a few of my own 🙂  My father named me after Debbie Reynolds and I wrote a lovely post here which you might find interesting. What’s in a name.  My daughter then requested a post on how they were named. Hello my name is…Awesome

My middle name is Anne (with an E) which I think just went nicely with Deborah (Debbie) and meant I fitted in perfectly with all the other Debbie Anne’s around at the time (think early 1960s).

Can I digress for a moment on the subject of names of CYCLONES? At the moment Cyclone Debbie is bashing about the coast of North Queensland and I am collecting news headlines I hear that refer to my name. These are my current favourites:

The full force of Debbie hasn’t been felt yet! (my husband loves this one)

(Cyclone) Debbie isn’t doing anything we want her to do.

(Cyclone) Debbie is not playing the game.

(Cyclone) Debbie is a force to be reckoned with.

Please note that I’m not making light of the force of the cyclone but instead I am trying to lighten the situation by making fun of myself 🙂  I must also point out I live nowhere near the cyclone and I feel for all those battening down the hatches as we speak!

Music or silence while working?
As I’m no longer working (outside of the home) I admit to liking both.  Sometimes I have to have the house jumping with music blaring and at other times I like the quiet.  When I was at work I had music softly playing and found it added a certain ambiance in an otherwise rigid, structured, professional environment (think correctional centre for males).
I remember playing (quite loudly) the Pink Floyd song ‘Another Brick in the Wall with the lyrics ‘We don’t need no Education…quite stridently blaring out of my office…inmates looked at me askance – I was the Senior Education Officer when all is said and done!

All in all it’s just another brick in the wall

If you had a special place for your three most special possessions (not including photos, electronics, people or animals), what would they be?
This one is hard as my most precious possessions are people, photos and electronics.
1. My memories and thoughts are special possessions and if I ever lose my mind I’d like to have them stored somewhere safe so I can have access to them – maybe like in the cloud.
2. Books, notebooks and journals are all special to me.
3. My ability to laugh at myself is something I would hate to lose.

The Never List: What are things you know you never will do?

  1. Climb Mount Everest – I’ve been to Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal and that’s as high as I’d like to go.  (I hate heights and being on the edge of anything).
  2. Bungee jump – just can’t see myself doing it (see reasons above)
  3. Run a marathon – don’t get me wrong, I love running but can’t seem to manage anything more that 5-10kms (and that’s on a good day!).  At my advanced age I’m happy with that 🙂
  4. Become a famous blogger/go viral/set the world on fire with my writing – no big dreams for me!
  5. Appear on any form of reality TV show – sorry to disappoint anyone with this one!

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? 

Last week – I’m grateful for a happy, busy life and to live where I have the best backyard views.  I also celebrated 5 years of blogging with this post.

The weeks ahead – Looks like a fun couple of weeks coming up with lots of internal travels to spend time with various family – my sister and brother in law, my daughter and my parents! Loving this retired lifestyle 🙂

  3. This is a great blog post idea! I’ll just add what I’m grateful for from last week – I’m grateful for my husband, who does most of the housework to give me time to write after my day job 🙂

  5. Mom chose my first name, Molly, from a movie actress and I love my middle name Rae because Mom thought it flowed well with my first name and it is quite unique. My friends’ middle names were all Ann or Lynn or more traditional choices. I don’t like any music when I am doing mental work, but love to have podcasts or music in the back ground when I am cooking or cleaning. I’ll never sky dive and I’m grateful that for every day the temps are above freezing the snow is melting in my back yard. I’m hoping by May it will be gone!

  6. My middle name, Kaur, is given as a name for all female Sikhs. It means Princess, and is meant to denote equality amongst us all.
    And congrats on the 5 year Blogiversary!!!

  9. I love this idea, Debbie! What a great way to find out more about your favourite bloggers. I’m going to have to do some digging in the family archives about my middle name lol. I’m also slightly gutted I don’t have a storm named after me! 😉

  14. I’m going to have to ask Mum how I got my name because I’ve only ever heard about how you got yours (for other readers – I’m Debbie’s sister). My name has become such a ‘bogan’ over the years but I like to think that when I was named it didn’t have that association. If it did, and if Janet is right in saying that we either grow into our names or we have particular qualities which attract our name at birth, then there’s no hope for me. Bogan it is!!
    I prefer to think of the Biblical link … that sounds more like me 😂😂

  16. I love the question about how we got our names. My mother named me Janet because she said it was a good, dependable sort of name which begs the question do we grow to fit our names or is there something about us which attracts our names even at birth? I have always been honest, reliable, dependable, hard working and while all those are positive qualities inside me there is a blonde, slightly fickle Penelope just longing to break out!
