Earthly gifts

Earth

The earth is what we all have in common.

Hibiscus flower

I love this yellow hibiscus flower which opened up fully for the first time this morning in mum’s garden. It’s a small plant, in a pot, and has just this one flower (so far).

I think it’s so beautiful,  I’ve declared today Happy Hibiscus Day!

I’m reminded that without earth many things just wouldn’t grow.  Earth is also a myriad of colours and textures – one minute earthy brown mud, the next red sandy soil.  Just like people really – we’re all different colours but we all need stability, good grounding, roots (family), water, fertilizer, earth, sunshine and love, so that we too can blossom like this lovely yellow hibiscus flower.

Without earth, where would we be?

I also love the imagery of Earth, Wind and Fire – so here are some of my images….

This week’s photo challenge gives us all the opportunity to “share an image that means “earth” to you — whether it’s a panorama of a landscape that takes your breath away, a close-up revealing a detail in nature, or another scene that honors the outdoors…  Just in time to celebrate Earth Day on 22 April!

Thank you earth for all your gifts!

Deb xx

  1. Nothing better to view and be around than good old earth. Just do not add too much fire please Mother Nature right now as it is sooo hot. I can imagine it is relentless for you at Tumba.
Thank you for joining in #lifethisweek and the optional prompt for next time is: 4/51. What Is Hope? 28/1/19. Denyse

    1. No we don’t need any more fire Denyse! It has been a hot summer that’s for sure. Thanks for the opportunity to share our posts and I always enjoy reading what others are posting in reply to your prompts.

  2. I love the idea of Happy Hibiscus Day Deb because they do grow in all the holiday spots don’t they? Gorgeous photos. Yesterday I did yoga in the park and we were gathered under a beautiful big fig tree. I was reminded of earth as I grounded myself and also of the sky as I lay on my back peering through the leaves of the trees to sunshine and blue sky. Oooh I sound a little creative don’t I LOL:) xx

    1. I do love the bright happy colours in flowers and I’m glad you have one to brighten your garden most of the year. I’m staying up north at the moment and the differences in gardens and flowers is amazing compared to what we have down south at this time of year. I just love colour!!

  3. As an Earth sign (Taurus) I couldn’t agree more with these sentiments and we ignore Earth at our peril as we depend on her for so much. Taking pleasure in the small things is something that is available to all, rich and poor and sadly often neglected. Lovely pictures.
