Backwards – #Writespiration

Writespiration – is a great challenge from writer and blogger Sacha Black.  2017 brings 52 challenges over 52 weeks and we’re up to week 16 already!

The challenge is to write something using the weekly theme in just 52 words…. EXACTLY 52 words, no more, no less. It’s harder than it seems, feel free to have a go yourself if you doubt me!

This week Sacha has outdone herself with the prompt:

This week is a challenge and a half. I want you to write about the theme:

Backwards.

BUT, in addition to that, I want you to write your story backwards…!

WHAT!!!! OK after my initial panic I decided that I can do this.  I’ve twisted it around a bit and written a prelude to my earlier post The Girl in the Black Hood – I think that counts as going backwards!!

Backwards

Looking back she was never really ready

She liked the idea and all the fuss

But the actual reality of it was starting to dawn on her

This was for real, this was for life

People expected so much.

Was she ready for that?  Really ready?

Going backwards to go forwards.

Honesty.

In case you missed my story for #Writespiration a few weeks ago (as mentioned above), here it is for you.

The Girl in the black hood

She walked out of the room

And kept walking.

The weather was stifling,
She wasn’t taking off her hoodie,
Not for all the tea in China.

She left behind a broken man
A family in disarray
A special day gone awry.

For underneath her black hoodie
Was a beautiful white wedding dress.

I hope you agree with me that my idea of writing a prelude works for the theme. Whichever way, I had fun 🙂

I look forward to seeing how others have interpreted this one. I’d love to know what you think of my efforts!

Deb 🙂

    1. Thanks Molly, it’s not easy but I like to do it to challenge myself. I also only give myself a set time to do it so that I’m not thinking too much about it. It’s hard but so rewarding when it comes together. I hope you’ll give it a try 😊
