A Sentence a Day – a month in review
I’ve decided to join some wonderful bloggers for the Sentence a Day writing challenge for the month of June.
On the first Thursday of each month, we link our posts up and can read what everyone else has been up to during the month.
It’s also great to read back through the daily entries to see what I managed to fit into the month. It’s quite surprising!
I have always liked writing a diary so this is just a condensed way of doing it. I’ve tried to show the little things as well as the bigger events. I must admit when reading it back, I note that I’m rarely sitting still, except when I’m at the computer writing my posts!
- Thursday: In Tasmania for the first day of winter as we drove across the West Coast to Stanley for the last night of our trip – found a gorgeous B&B for the night, called The Ark.
- Friday: Chatted to our hosts over a delicious breakfast, climbed The Nut, visited Highfield Historic Site, visited my niece, then onto Penguin before boarding the The Spirit of Tasmania at Devonport for the night sailing back to the mainland.
- Saturday: Arrived into Melbourne at 6.30am and on the road by 7.30am, meeting up with my sister and her husband along the way as they decided to have a weekend away at our house! Home by mid afternoon with the fire on shortly afterwards.
- Sunday: A walk in the forest before my sister and her husband left for their drive home.
- Monday: Catching up with blogging after 2 weeks away, to ladies discussion group over lunch and then attended a Rotary event that evening to celebrate the success of the recent Tumba2Kokoda trek over the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea, which my husband was one of the leaders.
- Tuesday: 4 km run in the forest, attended a meeting of the Save Tumbarumba Shire committee followed by shopping.
- Wednesday: An easy day at home catching up on some housework and a 30 minute walk.
- Thursday: Baby daughter turns 29 today, and her wedding is in exactly 4 months time!!! I also went for a 6.6km run today.
- Friday: Lazy day at home.
- Saturday: Coffee shop catch-up with friends and finally cleaned out the sun-room in the backyard so that I can enjoy sunny winter’s days out there; went for a 4km run too.
- Sunday: 4.05km run before attending a Jazz concert at the local gallery – it was fantastic.
- Monday: Today was a Public Holiday for the Queen’s birthday here in Australia and I did a 30 min walk before meeting a girlfriend at our favourite local coffee shop/cinema cafe to see the movie Hidden Figures.
- Tuesday: My training run today was a longer 6.45km which was pretty good; we had internet issues and spent most of the afternoon on the phone to the technicians trying to reconnect. We had our Rotary Youth Exchange student, Annabell up for dinner as she leaves for home shortly.
- Wednesday: The highlight of today was the beautiful winter sunshine and my 35 minute walk.
- Thursday: Time for my hair appointment and I decided to go back to a darker shade of brown, I like it!
- Friday: Up early to drive to Canberra (3 hours away) – lunch with one of daughters, shopping, 15 km bike ride and then onto the conference centre for our Rotary Youth Exchange weekend with other committee members.
- Saturday: Interviewed prospective Rotary Youth Exchange all day and after dinner, the committee sat up all night deciding which students would be selected to go away for a year overseas and to what country. Exhausting day but well worth the effort.
- Sunday: Markets, shopping with daughter, relaxed, read my book, dinner cooked for me, followed by going out to see the amazing Wonder Woman movie with my husband, daughter and son-in-law.
- Monday: Up early to drive home (3 hours) in time to attend my ladies discussion group over lunch, followed by weekly Rotary dinner meeting, followed by monthly Bookclub meeting over supper – such a fun but busy day!
- Tuesday: Went for a 3.28km run in the forest, caught up on blogging, rang my daughter, sat in the warm winter sunshine – what more can I ask for?
- Wednesday: 3.73km run in the morning and cleaned up the house before going to dinner with friends to discuss plans for our trip to the Philippines in January, to attend a friend’s wedding.
- Thursday: My mum’s birthday and a great day for our rail trail with our efforts rewarded with the required legislation passing through parliament to officially close the line, the day was spent watching Parliament online and cheering loudly at the result!
- Friday: Went for a 3.56km run in the forest and attended our local Rotary Club’s annual Changeover dinner.
- Saturday: I had a very early start, with a flight to Sydney then to Gold Coast, where I met up with my sister and mother; we visited dad in his aged care home; and we had a fun time out at dinner and saw a show together.
- Sunday: Visited dad and took him out for lunch with a few family members for Mum’s birthday and then my sister flew home to Melbourne mid afternoon.
- Monday: It was a hot day for me compared to my usual cooler climate back home and I had to buy some shorts! I went for a run around the area when it was cooler.
- Tuesday: Mum had plans with friends to play scrabble so I walked around the town and joined in with mum’s 45 minute exercise class in the park later in the day.
- Wednesday: We visited dad and took him out for morning tea where we caught up with dad’s sister and brother-in-law, followed by shopping and a 30 minute walk.
- Thursday: An easy day at home with mum, although she was busy in the garden while I relaxed, reading in the sunshine; followed by another 45 minute exercise class with mum’s group.
- Friday: We met up with some of mum’s friends for morning tea in a beach-side town before checking into our apartment accommodation at Tugun Beach for the next two days. I managed a lovely 4km run along the beach followed by dinner at the local Surf Club and mum and I relaxed at our home away from home….
So that was my month in review – in a sentence a day! It’s interesting looking back and seeing how much I managed to fit into a month. I haven’t listed the time I spent blogging and reading blogs during the month either!
Why not try this challenge for July? It is surprising what you might write over the course of the month and it is fun reading. You can then link up and read other posts from those taking the challenge. I’ll warn you that it is hard to keep it to just one sentence sometimes.
The year is just racing by isn’t it?
See you next month!
Deb 🙂

Hi Deb I enjoyed reading about your month and all of your Aussie adventures! It looks like such a beautiful place.
I have a friend who travels there almost every year to see her high school friend. She throws a lovely party each August intends to share something about her travels as part of her theme. Last year she sent us home with raspberry jam and little mustard jars I think.
Have you always been a runner? All you great exercisers are starting to inspire me… Of course I have to be able to walk again, first.

Thanks for your comment on my June post. I was a runner when I was younger but started up again after turning 50. Lovely to have you visit!

I loved your month Deb and its funny quite a few of us had a visit to the hair salon! Your trip to Tassie has been wonderful to read about. I wonder what you will get up to in July? Have a great month and I’m so pleased you have joined the link up.

Had written a comment and my computer ate it. Boo!
That bed and breakfast is so quaint and cozy. Wish we had something similar near here for weekend getaway.
All of you gals are putting my meager exercise routines to shame. I have to get back at it. Nothing better than running and swimming for overall toning. Would love to try a run in the forest. Must be easier on the joints and much more pleasant than running on the treadmill or street.
Like the warm brown color of your hair. My highlights are growing too bright, make that glowing too bright. I am ready to get back to my normal brown and gray stripes.
Enjoyed reading about places I have never heard of like Tugun Beach and Tumbarumba Shire. Like something out of The Hobbit. Great fun!
Thank you so much for joining us. Would love to have you try the fall bucket list series when we start 9/21!

What an cozy bed and breakfast. I wish we could find one not too far from here that would be quaint yet comfortable. They just aren’t terribly popular in this part of the southwest U.S.
So much fun reading about different places in your posts. Tumbarumba Shire and Tugun Beach sound like something out of The Hobbit. Love it.
Can’t imagine running in the forest but would like to try it, as long as there are no ticks. I bet it is easier on the joints than running on the street. Want to get back to running again next week. Nothing better than that and swimming for whole body exercise.
Love the warm brown hair color. I have highlights right now that are too “high” for my tastes. Really ready for them to grow out and get my brown and gray striped hair back.
Thank you so much for joining us, Deb. Following you now on Bloglovin’ etc.

Thanks for the lovely comment Leslie, I’m so pleased to be joining in. I’m slowly working my way through the other posts in the link up and finding it so interesting!
I’m glad our names resonate with you, they are very Australian!
I’ve been following your pool saga but am glad you can still swim in it for the moment, it’s a great exercise as you say.
I’m very happy with my hair colour this time, as it tends to go too brassy when it’s blonder, I think I’ll stay this way for the moment. Great to have made contact with such a great group of bloggers.

You are such a great exerciser Deb!! I’m so in awe of that! I guess it’s time to get off my bum and do the same!!
I’ve been letting my hair go natural lately—and everyone comments on how dark it looks—I do like yours too!!

WOW, you are running so much, Are you training for a marathon? I admire how much you exercise. Since my daughter was born, I practice only stretching but not regularly.

Thanks Miri, I need to stay running or walking as it helps me keep my weight under control (but it doesn’t seem to be working too well at the moment!) Stretching is important and I’m afraid I don’t do enough of it. Thanks for the comment and visit.

Yay, so glad you found me! Thanks for the comment on y hair, I love it after months of it turning brassy within a few weeks, it’s nice to have the softer brown colour! My running has taken a slow dive at the moment due to a sore knee but I’m sure I’ll be fine in a day or two.

Fabulous Debbie. I’m in my 6th year of writing a sentence a day. I use a kikki.k book so it’s fun seeing what I was doing on this day last year, or several years ago. Enjoy !
