A Sentence a Day – a month in review

feel free to pin me!

I joined in with some wonderful bloggers for the Sentence a Day writing challenge for the month of June, and enjoyed it so much I’m back again for July!

On the first Thursday of each month, we link our posts up and can read what everyone else has been up to during the month. It’s  fun to read back through the daily entries to see what I managed to fit into the month.  At the end of June I was visiting my parents on the North Coast of NSW and the travelling around hasn’t slowed down this month as you’ll see below!

  1. Saturday: Still in Queensland with mum at Tugun Beach, catch up over lunch with old friends of mum and dad’s.
  2. Sunday: Delicious and nutritious breakfast with mum before she took me to the airport for my trip home.  I had a break of two hours in Sydney waiting for my next flight which was a bit delayed. It was 20 degrees when I left Queensland and 6 degrees when I landed in Wagga Wagga then I had over an hours drive home where it was even colder! I was glad to see my husband again.
  3. Monday: I checked in on blogland before going to my ladies discussion group over lunch, which is always fun.  Our topic this month has been Portraits of  Scandinavia:Norway and Denmark and covered some of the major figures in the 18th century including artists, writers, musicians, playwrights and philosophers.
  4. Tuesday: Wet, cold and decidedly wintry since I arrived home but I made myself go for a run in the forest.

  5. Wednesday: My left knee is very sore so I think I overdid the trail running yesterday, visited friends for lunch.
  6. Thursday: Went for a walk to test my knee out, it was OK but still not right.  Mountain bike event for kids on school holidays using our tracks in the forest.  Friends came over to discuss our trip to New Zealand later this year.
  7. Friday: I made myself leave the house and go to town for some supplies, I’m turning into a hermit but thankfully some friends turned up for a chat and a cup of tea. My husband’s new t shirt arrived which he’s thrilled to have (it will remain to be seen if he actually wears it!)

  8. Saturday: Our regular Saturday morning catch up at our favourite cafe and I had the most amazing massage in the afternoon which wiped me out for the rest of the day!
  9. Sunday: A bit wet and miserable but I managed a 3.55km run through the forest and my knee held up just fine – phew!
  10. Monday: Cold day, hiked for while and got caught in a shower of rain but took some shots of the awesome clouds.
  11. Tuesday: A trip to the big smoke, the city of Wagga Wagga (110kms each way) for a visit to the dentist, not my favourite thing to do but all clear for another 6 months, then some shopping :), followed by a fun night celebrating our rail trail success with friends and supporters.
  12. Wednesday: Today’s medical trip is about my hearing, anyone would think I was getting old or something?? Had some ‘young friends’ over for dinner so feeling much better now and not so old!
  13. Thursday: Attended the AGM of the local Historical Society, came out without a job so that was a win!
  14. Friday: Tax time with accountant followed by a fun dinner and games night with our young friends. Lots of laughs!
  15. Saturday: Morning tea at our favourite cafe catching up with friends and then a lovely walk in the forest.
  16. Sunday: House cleaning all day as I have a busy week ahead hosting lunches with friends.
  17. Monday: First time for me to host my ladies discussion group at my home and thankfully all went well, and that evening I went out to my monthly Bookclub group.
  18. Tuesday: Walking, blogging, and a dinner meeting for our cycle group at the pub.
  19. Wednesday: Hosted lunch for my previous work colleagues, and they presented me with a tree which we planted in the garden.  It was great to have them all together again and we swapped stories on how we are all coping with our various forced retirements. (We were all made redundant late last year).img_2272
  20. Thursday: Hair appointment and attended a meeting for our Rail Trail group with local council staff, at least my hair looked good!
  21. Friday: Drove to Nowra (5 hours) to see my parents-in-law and my favourite sister-in-law, for the weekend and I had a great run in the bush. My daughter was successful in getting a new job she interviewed for earlier in the week!
  22. Saturday: Spent the day with family as we remembered my brother-in-law’s sudden and shocking death 3 years ago, he was only 55.
  23. Sunday: Went to the beach for a great trip down memory lane, revisiting old haunts. Another great training run in the bush, it’s much warmer here than at home.
  24. Monday: Caught up with friends.
  25. Tuesday: Enjoyed a morning run before driving to Canberra for the night seeing our daughter and son-in-law, with a lovely Italian dinner.
  26. Wednesday: Drove home and unpacked, got the fire going and did lots of washing.
  27. Thursday: Had a walk before going for a massage, then spent time packing bags for the next trip away tomorrow.
  28. Friday: Drive 6 hours to visit my sister and brother-in-law in Melbourne for the weekend. Went to the gym with my sister for a great workout.
  29. Saturday: Up and out very early for a trip by heritage steam train from Melbourne to Moe, then bus to Walhalla, a beautiful old gold mining town.
  30. Sunday: Run Melbourne 2017 – train into the city, met up with Annie a fellow blogger before joining the thousands to run the 6km Run Melbourne event. My blogging daughter published a lovely post about her Travel Loving Parents which brought a tear to my eye.  You can read more about my run here.

  31. Monday: Up early for the 6 hour drive home from Melbourne, stopping off for some supplies along the way. My sore right hip didn’t enjoy all the sitting in the car!

Phew!  So that was my month – in a sentence a day!  It’s interesting looking back and seeing how much I managed to fit into the month.  Lots of family visits and I haven’t listed the time I spent blogging and reading books during the month either!

Why not try this challenge for yourself?  It is surprising what you might write over the course of the month and it is fun reading.  You can then link up and read other posts from those taking part in the challenge.  I’ll warn you that it is hard to keep it to just one sentence sometimes.

The year is just racing by isn’t it?  Wishing you all a fantastic month ahead and thanks for stopping by my blog.

See you next month!

Deb 🙂

  1. what a busy month for you Debbie and you were all over the country! So sorry to read about your brother-in-law it is always an emotional time even years later. I like the idea of your ladies discussion group it is great to stay connected online but nothing really beats face-to-face. Speaking of which, next time you are in Brissy let me know and we can catch up for a coffee – then add it to our sentence-a-day LOL:)

    1. Thanks Sue, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon either!! Definitely need a catch up when I’m in Brisbane next. It will be late October for my daughter’s wedding party. You might be away though.

  2. Love meeting another fabulous fit gal in mid-life! Honestly, I don’t know how I’d get through the day without my daily dose of endorphins, and I’m guessing you are much the same given your apparent commitment to staying active. And as someone from the USA, it surely looks like fun to be doing all that you do in a country as wonderful as Australia. We’ve been to just Sydney and Melbourne, and a return trip is definitely on our list to see much more!

Your ladies discussion group sounds fascinating, and would love to know a bit more about some of the other topics you’ve discussed, and how you go about preparing for your meetings.

    1. Hi Tamara, thanks for your comment and understanding!! I’m glad you enjoyed your trip to Sydney and Melbourne, they are great places.
Our discussion group is coordinated by an organisation which we pay a small fee for course booklets and have a tutor who we write reports answering set question to after each session. It’s very interesting and I learn a lot.

  3. It’s so nice to see another active mid-life gal. I do think it makes such a positive impact in every area of life, don’t you? Energy, mood, physique, health, weight . . . the list just goes on and on.

It’s so much fun hearing about your day to day life in Australia. I’m guessing you live on the west coast per your references to places visited? We’ve been to Sydney and Melbourne, but will definitely be back to see more of your incredible country!

Your ladies discussion group sounds very interesting! Will have to search your blog for more info on what might be a terrific thing to get going where I live!

  4. Hoping your hip is on the mend. With all the running and walking and activity you do, no wonder you have the occasional knee or hip ache!! I would be bed-ridden.

Funny how many of us are blogging after forced or early retirements. But retirement certainly has slowed us down.

The photos of those clouds are stunning…powerful yet soft like water color paintings. Had to chuckle how your massage did you in for the day…not the runs, the walks but the massage!!

    1. I know, I’m a sucker for a good massage and try to have the m regularly as they help me a lot. Being retired is proving quite a busy time and very enjoyable too. I love the big sky around here and often take photos of it. Lovely to have you along.

  5. I always love the photos that come with these sentence a day posts. It takes away from it just being diary entries and makes it all so personal. Sounds like you had a great month Deb.
