52 week photography project – Week 3: Transport

Source: Week 3: Transport

For those of you playing along at home here is Week 3 of our 52 week photography project.

My photo for Transport was a classic Steam Train arriving in a dramatic puff of steam at Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station on a cold morning.  Did I say it was an early start too?  No? well it was very, very early start for me, as I am getting used to later starts now that I don’t have to get up and go to work, especially on a cold winter’s day.

Steam Train

In honour of my daughters’ love of Harry Potter I couldn’t go past this photo from our most excellent day out on the steam train with Steam Rail Victoria. Arriving dramatically at Southern Cross station in a puff of steam, we were transported back in time for the day.

See what I did there with the word transport??

As four of us were involved in the steam day outing, I was expecting more train shots in this week’s roundup.  We don’t discuss our photos until the big reveal on the Sunday night so it’s always a great surprise to see how everyone has interpreted the week’s theme. My sister took a great shot of Mind the Gap on the platform with the Steam Rail Victoria logo in the background.  I debated about using my Mind the Gap photo so am glad I went with the train instead.  The other photos are a great mix of transport, shots taken in the city with trams, trains and people;  a hot air balloon; a vintage landrover and my husband’s quirky take on transport through the green tunnel.

Don’t take my word for it, go and check out this week’s photos!

Who’s who in the story…

I have joined with 6 photographers, of varying experience, to take a photo every week for a year, one theme at a time. It’s turned into a bit of a family affair actually with my sister, my brother-in-law, my nephew, my husband, my daughter and a close friend of my sister’s.  You can read more about us all here in the About page.

Each week for 52 weeks…

Each week we are given a new theme and must take a photo, add some words and submit it to Tim, who will compile a post at 52 Weeks Photography Group, on Sunday night.  He then tells us our next theme…and so on for 52 weeks!

This is the first time I’ve been involved in this project but some of the others are on their second time round. At the end of the previous project they produced a beautiful coffee table book with all the photos and words included from their weekly submissions. It’s a magnificent record of a year in photos.

Week 1 theme – Self Portrait

I’m now thinking of how to interpret the next theme of Long Distance.

It’s great to be involved in such a creative challenge with a small supportive group.  I’d love to hear your thoughts on our various takes on either of these themes.  Be sure to click on the link to check out the full post over on the blog 52 Weeks Photography Group.

Happy photographing!
