Letters in the environment – Week 18 of 52 week photography project

Welcome to my wrap up post for week 18 of our 52 week photo project.

The theme for Week 18 was Letters in the environment, and it became necessary to keep all eyes peeled for ideas as we rode our bikes around the Hauraki Rail Trail in New Zealand.

It took over my week and as we were travelling with friends, I also enlisted their help.

The letters could be anything in the world around us. I saw trees with a Y shape, flowers that could be manipulated into the shape of a letter, lots of X marks the spots, street art and graffiti, murals and even the clouds were inspected to see what they had to offer.

I admit to getting a bit desperate towards the end of the week but just as I was starting to panic, we came across this great little car.

It was painted bright yellow and I felt the colourful words of wisdom were just right!

Words to live by

My accompanying words: The world needs more Peace, Love and Empathy – great words made up of letters I found while travelling out in the big wide world (in New Zealand to be exact).

Peace and love from me to you.

The photos from everyone else show a vast array of letters in various forms in our environment.

Alison’s photo was of a building with faded advertising from days gone by.

Daniel shared a photo of a stack of books – full of letters!

Grant’s photo was a very interesting sign he found in a men’s toilet block

Melanie very cleverly featured the London Eye lit up at night forming a beautiful red O.

Sharon found a pop up G at a performance of Othello at the Globe and shared it with us.

Tim’s photo was of an O marks the spot, but I’m still not exactly sure what it was a photo of. Any ideas?

I encourage you to go and have a look for yourself and let me know what you think of this week’s collection of photos. It’s always fun to see what everyone comes up with!

What’s the story behind the 52 week photography project I hear you ask?

You can read all about it here: 52 week photography project  – but basically I have joined with 6 photographers, of varying experience, to take a photo every week for a year, one theme at a time. That’s 52 weeks of photos!

I’ve been assured it’s all about creativity, not necessarily photographic expertise – and each week we’re all unique in our interpretations of the theme.

I like to do a wrap-up post each week linking back to the 52 Week project blog’s page to share the fantastic talent of the group. My posts have a page of their own now here on my blog, so I can keep track of them easily: 52 weeks photography project

It’s great to be involved in such a creative challenge with a small supportive group.  I’d love to hear your thoughts on our various takes on any of these themes.  Be sure to click on the link to check out the full post over on the blog 52 Weeks Photography Group.

Happy photographing! Let me know what you think of our photos this week. As always I appreciate your thoughts, especially if you have any feedback to offer.

I was also pleased with my photo as it fits in well with Australians voting Yes for marriage equality this week.

Next week’s theme is 6:06 – should be interesting!!

Enjoy your week ahead!

Deb 🙂
