A self portrait to be proud of – finally!

The final self portrait for our 52 week photo project

Welcome to the final wrap-up post

The project started with a self portrait and ended with a self portrait

I’m not a huge fan of self portraits but during the year we took 5 – Weeks 1,13, 26, 39 and 52. I tried to be creative each time and by the end of the project I think I managed to finally use my camera properly.  And I produced a photo I’m actually quite happy with. Bonus!!

I was determined to use the remote facility on my camera and after a few dismal attempts I managed to capture this image while we were travelling on a 7 hour train trip. I know it’s not quite clear, but I think it shows the movement of the train.

Here are my accompanying words to my photo:

For my final self portrait I was determined to attempt to use the remote function on my camera. We were on the train from Essen (Germany) to Zurich for over 7 hours so I had some time to experiment. This was the best of a bad lot but I kind of like the wistful look on my face as I’m taking in the scenery. I played around some more and decided to go with the black and white image. It’s not my usual Debbie Smile photo – I’m happy with the growth I’ve experienced during this 52 week photo project.

Photos from the group

The photos from the others in the group were very interesting with some bold and creative styles displayed. Everyone has been very clever again, and very supportive throughout the year long project.

You can read more about the story behind the project here: 52 week photography project  – but basically I joined 5 photographers, of varying experience, to take a photo every week for a year. That’s 52 weeks of photos!

I’ve learnt a lot from participating in this 52 week photo project.  I will miss the thrill attached to seeing the post go up each week and spending all week trying to find my shot!!

How did you like our self portraits this week?

That’s it folks! I hope you’ve enjoyed the year in photos as much as I have. Thanks for joining me throughout the year and being so positive and encouraging.

    1. Thanks! There’s always something to do isn’t there? It was more a family affair and we all loved the different themes each week. We’ll now produce a coffee table book for the group so we will remember our weekly submissions. Great to have you visit.

  1. That is a great self-portrait Deb because as you say it is completely different to the front-on smiling Deb that we know. I can feel you soaking up the sights as you travel along in the train. Well done on 52 weeks of a photo challenge that shows real staying power. 🙂

    1. Thanks Sue, I appreciate your thoughts on my photo 😍! It was indeed a great year of photography themes and I like to think that I improved my skills throughout the year. I will miss the pressure of finding a photo by Sunday night.

  2. Great photo Deb and I love the 52 week concept too. A really good way of learning about the camera, documenting part of your life, and setting an interesting goal. A few years ago I decided to do a photo a day for a whole year and got the whole batch of 365 printed and set in an album. As the years pass by the collection gets more and more fascinating.
