Have you ever fallen in love??

Have you ever had your heart so full of love that you feel it could burst?

Yep, that’s me at the moment 🙂

I bought a beautiful children’s book in a local shop today.  It’s called In My Heart, A Book of Feelings written by Jo Witek and illustrated by Christine Roussey.

My Heart

I know it’s aimed at explaining feelings to children but the page I randomly opened up at said exactly what I’ve been feeling lately.

Sometimes my heart feels like a big yellow star; shiny and bright.  I smile from ear to ear and twirl around so fast, I feel as if I could take off into the sky.

This is when my heart is happy.

Have you ever fallen in love?

You see I became a grandmother last week and my heart is bursting with love; not only for my new baby granddaughter but also for my daughter and son-in-law for producing such a perfect little baby and their new life with everything ahead of them; love for my family who have been through so much this year and love for myself for being tenacious and hanging in there when the going got tough.

I’m proud to be a grandmother, to know that my genes have contributed to this little baby girl’s makeup, who I know I will love unconditionally forever and ever. Falling in love again is a wonderful feeling.

But my heart doesn’t stay sad.  Like springtime after winter, the sun comes out again.  My heart grows tall, like a plant reaching toward the sky.

This is when my heart is hopeful.

  1. I’m writing a post on grandmotherdom being the best kept secret Deb. I had NO idea how much I would love my grandbabies – I just wish I had more of them! I’m so glad you’ve fallen in love too – it’s so special and so unexpected! I just wish mine lived a bit closer.

    1. Thanks Leanne, it is a completely different feeling isn’t it? But then it also raises more feelings of worry and fear for the future, I’m just focusing on the happiness and love at the moment. This was just a short post, I have another one telling more of the story in my drafts sitting waiting for me to get to but in the meantime I’m pretty happy with this 🙂 It was heartbreaking to leave them yesterday but I’ll be an even more frequent visitor I’m sure. I’m just so happy.

      1. I try not to think about the future world our grandchildren will live in Deb – people were doom and gloom about the world we were giving our kids and I think it’s still pretty good, so hopefully things will be okay for the next generation – especially if they are as well parented as they appear to be. So lovely to have you in the Nana club xx
#MLSTL and I’ve shared this on my SM

  2. I’m so happy for you and your family Deb. What a beautiful post. It reminded me of how I felt when I became a mum for the first time, that all consuming feeling of a heart full of love and happiness. Enjoy it all my lovely friend. Life is good. xx ❤️

    1. Yes Miriam, I know exactly what you mean. I’ve been back to those early days of my newborns and it’s so clear in my mind. All that love, feeling overwhelmed, the joy and the exhaustion- all rolled in together. So nice to be the grandmother this time. Life is very good at the moment!! Thank you Miriam, I always love your comments, so positive and uplifting, you truly understand xx

    1. Thanks Janis! I am so over the moon 😃 . A week ago she came into our lives and I can’t imagine life without her in our family. It’s a huge event after so much sadness this year and I think that’s why I feel so blessed. Emilia suits her much better than Spud, now that I’ve seen her but she’ll always be Spud to us. I really appreciate your lovely comment x

  5. Congratulations! We have 14 grandchildren (our 3 daughters have big families) and I never knew I could fall in love so many times! The majority of them live out of town, but that just makes our visits extra special and fun! Enjoy, because not only do you fall in love ~ it grows enormously! I have to get that book!

  6. It is the BEST feeling of love but a different one too. I so recall it and am so happy for you too. As you said, coming from a really difficult time in your family’s life, this little girl is such a symbol of love, hope and continuity. Big hugs to you! Denyse #mlstl

  7. Deb I remember when my first granddaughter was born and the overwhelming love that came over me the first time I saw her. My son had only been married about a year and a half when they decided to have a baby and I thought this was too soon. But the evening she was born I took one look at her and would have given my life right then to save hers.

  8. Oh, the joy of being a Granny!!! I am the proud Grammi to three amazing Grandsons…now ages 19, 17 and almost 13. I was at the birth of 2 of them (the oldest and youngest) and was on the phone listening as the middle one was born. There is nothing like the love you feel for a grandchild…it’s so different than anything else you’ve ever felt. Congratulations to you…may you always have a special relationship with Emilia as she grows and changes!!

    1. Thanks Pamela, what a lovely comment full of ‘love’. I’m enjoying myself immensely so far but we live about 3 hours drive away I’m missing seeing my new little baby girl! You’re right it is a very different love and I can’t wait to build a special relationship with her. ❤️

    1. Thanks very much Clive, I enjoy finding new bloggers to follow too. I love my family and blogging but my daughter is a bit concerned about sharing too much on line and so I can’t share photos of the beautiful new baby girl. I can assure you she’s gorgeous though. 😊

    1. Thanks so much Trisha, it was fun writing it and a special time in our lives. My daughter and husband aren’t keen for Emilia to have much of a presence on social media, so as much as I’d love to post gorgeous photos of her I am happy to respect their wishes.

  11. Your joy is evident from this photo. Congratulations!! As someone who struggles with sharing and acknowledging feelings, I think this book sounds perfect for grandma (and then I might pass it along to the children). Thank you for the recommendation 🙂

    1. Really appreciate that Jennifer, thanks! It was a lovely post to write and I’m so happy with it. I’m lucky to be able to spend time with my daughter and baby Emilia as I’m staying with them, helping my daughter out after her unexpected c-section.

  12. I love that book! I use it often in my therapy sessions with kids–it does such a great job of putting words to feelings and the illustrations are beautifully simplistic, which allows us to then create our own drawings of feelings without the child feeling like they can’t draw as well as the book. I’m glad you were able to find it and see the value in it for yourself and your little granddaughter as she grows!
