Taking Stock for #Lifethisweek

Taking Stock

Thanks to Denyse’s blog for these one word prompts as part of her regular #Lifethisweek series. Every nine weeks she  has this as an optional prompt for her linkup and this is the first ‘taking stock’ one for 2019. It’s also my first time at doing this particular format 🙂

To answer the prompts, I gave myself only a few moments to process the word and then wrote the first thing that came into my mind.  It was a fun activity to do – not too much thinking involved and I’m very happy with my thoughts overall!

Sometimes life gets too busy, and complicated so it’s fun to spend a few minutes on simple back to basics thought processes.  I hope you also enjoy reading my responses.

Making: Time to do what I enjoy.

Cooking: A roast chicken for dinner.

Drinking: Water with a lemon and ginger infusion and copious cups of tea!

Reading: A great article from the Guardian, which my daughter sent onto me for my thoughts.  Things have certainly changed since I was a young mother, but is it good change do you think? The article is about the current trend of tracking your baby’s every move ‘You can track everything’: the parents who are digitise their baby’s lives

Wanting: My sister to feel better.

Looking: For the answer to the meaning of life, but while I’m waiting for that, I’ll enjoy looking at the view of my garden and the bare paddocks, from my ‘desk’ today in the gazebo.

Smiling: At this photo of me with my granddaughter at our town’s recent weekend food, wine and music festival in Tumbarumba called Tumbafest.  My smile was huge all weekend and it was said that I was actually glowing as I proudly wheeled her around.

Playing: Podcasts while I walk – I’m loving David Tennants’s new podcast where he chats with a variety of interesting people. So far he’s talked with Olivia Coleman, Jodie Whittaker, Whoopi Goldberg, Ian Mckellen and Jon Hamm but so far I’ve only heard the ones with Olivia and Jodie. It’s called David Tennant Does a Podcast with…..

Wasting: Food – I cleaned out my cupboards and was amazed at how much was way out of date! And I’m talking years here!!!  My daughters may not be so surprised 🙂

Wishing: I could time travel to visit my daughters who don’t live close by.

Enjoying: Aqua aerobics with a great bunch of people.

Waiting: For my new reading glasses to arrive – waiting rather impatiently I must say, they’re so cool!

Liking: The fact that we’ve been out a lot lately.

Wondering: Why some people don’t like the idea of travel.  I read this ABC Life article – Why many Australians don’t have overseas travel on their bucket list

Loving: Being a part of the amazingly supportive blogging community.

Hoping: That time can slow down a bit sometime soon.

Marvelling: At the fact that people actually read my blog and seem to enjoy it! Thank you, I love you all 🙂

Needing: More good rain – it’s so dry down here and our tanks need refilling (we’re not connected to town water).

Smelling: The lovely scent of freshly dried sun-drenched washing straight from the line.

Wearing: Clothes I haven’t worn in a while and feeling good in them.

Following: Don’t judge me – but Dancing with the Stars, although I’ll admit I don’t know many of the current ‘stars’.

Noticing: The gradual change from summer to autumn, despite the warm temperatures.

Knowing: That the year is already flying by at a rapid pace!

Thinking: That it’s a long time since I went to a baby’s 1st birthday party and how hectic life is with young children.

Bookmarking: Things to read later when I have more time!!! As if that will ever happen!

Opening: Real letters in the mail – they don’t come often enough anymore.

Giggling: At random things that take my fancy!

Feeling: Happy and content.

What a life!

How would you respond to these prompts?

And if you have any thoughts on the Guardian article I mentioned I’d love to discuss them with you.

I always enjoy hearing from you!

  1. Congratulations on your first Taking Stock! I love the snapshot element of it and when I do my next one, I never look at the previous one and then check it later. Some things change but not always! My taking stocks have been more positive since my cancer diagnosis and recoveries. Funny that. Feeling for you on the isolation factor from the kids. We are like that now but did have special times with most of our grandkids at the baby to school age times and we relish those memories.
You ARE the proud Grandma in the photo…go girl.

I hope your sister is feeling some progress is being made in her recovery. Cancer just “loves” to hang about in different ways.

Thanks for linking up for #lifethisweek. Next week’s optional prompt is 10/51 Share Your Snaps #2. 11/3/19. Denyse

    1. Thanks for your comment Denyse, it really was fun to do. I love the idea of snapshot in time element as you say and will take your thoughts on board for the next one. I’m glad you can see the change in your posts over time, it’s one of the great things about blogging I think. Yes I am looking like a VERY proud granny in the photo 🙂
My sister is going along OK thanks, but with ups and downs as you well know all about. See you next week 🙂

  2. Hiya Deb, regarding people from our part of the world travelling. The big obstacle for many is their dislike for change and to get out of their comfort zone. Anxiety of the unknown. What I dislike is when they say how lucky we are. No luck involved! Just hours of planning and fingers crossed 🙂
We also need rain!! I’m hoping it won’t come all at once.
Have a good week Deb and your Mathematician 🙂

  3. What a great taking stock! I haven’t seen DWTS but I’ve been recording it so I can catch up when I get back down under and I’m hoping to get tickets to a live show in April! Squee! Isn’t it a joy to receive a real letter? I think the world needs more handwritten letters! Hope your March is marvellous!

    1. Thanks so much Sammie, it was fun to collate! Seeing a live show of DWTS would be amazing, they all put so much effort into it. Hope you don’t get any spoilers until you can watch it 🙂

  4. Well your month all sounds very pleasant Deb. I’m one of the Australians who isn’t a big fan of overseas travel. I think for me it’s the whole airport waiting thing, the security nonsense, the being crammed into cattle class for many, many hours, the luggage collection and customs, jetlag etc and then knowing I have to do it all again in a few weeks to come home. I love that Australia is so far away from all the political unrest, but it makes travel a bit of a pain for people like me.
PS I’ve been watching MAFS on catch-up TV – that makes Dancing with the Stars look highbrow!!!

    1. Oh Leanne!! MAFS?????? I don’t feel too bad now about sharing my DWTS confession 😂 😂😂😂
I get what you mean about travelling overseas but with my daughter on the other side of the world I know I just have to do it and I actually enjoy the whole rigmarole in a funny way.
      Thanks for the chat!!

  5. Hi Deb what a lovely catch up and we actually watched Dancing with the Stars last week. Like you, I’m not up with the latest ‘celebrities’! I love that photo of you with Emilia and my daughter just introduced me to Kikki K podcasts which I am enjoying. She interviews people about what they would do if money wasn’t a factor. What is their dream? I’m missing out on taking stock this month as my blogging themes seem to have taken over LOL:) I’m learning and enjoying my Life Coaching course and also enjoying my monthly themes. Have a beautiful March and don’t forget to make it meaningful! xx

    1. It sure is a a busy blogging time for you Sue but you’re having fun and we’re all learning and enjoying it too, so win/win! Your course sounds great and so up your alley. That photo is my new favourite for obvious reasons 🙂 . I look so happy in it and I feel like I’m radiating my joy to everyone who sees it!! Thanks for the comment, always so good to have you with me!

  6. Real letters don’t come enough. Maybe I need to write some. I love the pic at the festival. Gorgeous that you loved it so much. I don’t understand people that don’t like to travel. I understand you can’t afford to, but to not want to is beyond my comprehension. There’s just too much to SEE!! But I think you have it or you don’t…the bug, that is.

    1. I’m with you about the travel Lydia, it amazes me at times but then everyone is different in how they ‘see’ the world. I love the shot of me with Emilia (obvs!!) and the festiuval was such a relaxing time with friends and family. Thanks for your visit and comment.
