Friday Feature on Deb’s World
Winners & Losers #17
Welcome to Week 17 of my Friday roundup. I’ve enjoyed sharing these collections with you all, and I love getting your responses – thanks so much to everyone who reads, comments and shares any of my posts. I do try to mix it up each week so hopefully there’s something for everyone. The aim is to make you smile so I hope I succeed in that.
You are very welcome to join in each week by leaving a comment with your own winners and losers.
The news for July is a challenge to get creative by joining in with Journaling in July. Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 and Beyond and I are co-hosting a link up each Saturday for anyone who is participating in responding to her 31 journal writing prompts.
You can read my post about the July challenge here and if you’re keen, you can join in – the more the merrier. I will be sharing my post with my responses to each prompt on Saturday, so stay tuned.
If you would like to join in you can either pick a prompt and write about it or make notes on each day’s prompts and collate them into one post to share with us in the Saturday linkup.
Musings on a Monday quote 🙂
It’s never too late to change direction!
I share a new quote each Monday on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. I’d love to have you join me.
Dry July – are you in?
As well as being #JournalinginJuly it’s also Dry July where people choose to give up alcohol for the month of July, usually to raise money for a worthwhile charity. I’m happy, not smug, to say that I’ve actually been dry since August last year, by choice, and really haven’t noticed any difference. I must qualify this statement by saying I was never a big drinker at the best of times, but decided to go alcohol free when I was unwell for a period of time last year.
I think Dry July is a commendable endeavour and for a great cause – raising funds for the comfort and wellbeing of people affected by cancer. Are you taking the challenge? Could you do it? Are you taking part?
Only in Australia v6!! 😮
This segment is proving to be so much fun each week!
This week we get to meet Pixie, an orphaned baby koala, whose mother was killed in a car accident – did you know a baby koala is called a joey? 🐨
And the Gold Logie goes to….
Here in Australia our annual Logie awards night has caused some controversy with the Gold Logie going to comedian Tom Gleeson who some say has made a mockery of the whole awards ceremony.
Here is an article in the Sydney Morning Herald – Logies 2019: Where to now after Tom Gleeson’s disruptive win
And an interview on ABC with him after the awards night
Do you have any thoughts on this? I was just pleased that many of my favourites on ABC TV were winners!
Winter by Leunig
A beautiful ode to winter!
As we now have the #1 Womens player, Ash Barty to support in Wimbledon, it’s a time of lots of late nights for some!
This week there has been a furore with the local broadcasters showing the match between Australians Nick Kyrgios (rated 43) and Jordan Thompson (rated 44), over the Ash Barty game. It was a big topic on social media with people saying it showed disrespect to Ash Barty and Women’s tennis, that the men’s game was given precedence.
Yesterday – the movie
Before we came home from our little holiday, the Mathematician and I enjoyed a trip to the movies to watch Yesterday. We loved the story and of course the music. The funniest bits were some of the other things that were ‘lost’ in the same blackout that lost the Beatles. You’ll have to go and see it and let me know what you thought of it all!
Adulting has its challenges
Some of you might have been worried that I wouldn’t cope with being home in the cold after a lovely month in sunny and warm Queensland. Well I’m happy to say it’s been fine.
The days are sunny and although the temperatures don’t reach double digits most days, it’s an invigorating feeling, and the crisp, clean air and snow views on the main range are just a delight! I’ve learnt to add another layer or two of clothing, and all is well.
I’m also getting reacquainted with my forest trails 🙂
