Who made the Winners and Losers list for week #21

Friday Feature on Deb’s World

Winners & Losers #21

Welcome to Week 21 of my Friday roundup. It’s always fun seeing which stories take my interest from one Friday to the next. Most of them make me smile, with the losers in the minority. I’m more interested in the positives and anything that makes me smile. I’ve also learnt that life is much better when we’re kind to one another.

We have been away from home for over 10 days and have had a busy, and emotional time, with family.

To be honest, I would say that family has been the biggest winner for me this week.

So, here are my other Winners and Losers for another week.

Musings on a Monday quote 🙂

This quote is just for a bit of fun and I used it in my post for Day 29 of #JournalinginJuly as it was a free-writing prompt. There’s a story behind this one and it will be featured in my final post for #JournalinginJuly on Saturday.

Just a bit of a sneak peek – it involves a story from my time in gaol (jail/prison/correctionalcentre)…..😳

I share a new quote each Monday on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. I’d love to have you join me. If you have a favourite quote just let me know and I’ll feature it.

#JournalinginJuly – Week 4 and a guest on my blog

As you know, I’ve been participating in the Journaling in July challenge with Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 and Beyond. We have been co-hosting a link up each Saturday for anyone who has been responding to Sue’s 31 daily journal writing prompts. There are quite a few bloggers who have been participating and it’s always fun seeing how everyone responds to the prompts in their own way.

This week was another big week of quite reflective prompts – including what I’m good at, what I don’t want in my life, my favourite movie, and what I’m excited about…

I actually asked Sue to write a guest post for me and she managed to fit it in despite having lots going on. You can read it here – Favourite Seasons through Sue’s eyes

We’ve reached the end of July now and my final post for #JournalinginJuly will be up on the blog on Saturday. Stay tuned!

Only in Australia!!

This segment is one of my favourites each week! Today we have a great photo of a riot of kookaburras!

Did you know?

Did you know that the group of kookaburras are called a flock or a riot? I love the word riot as when kookaburras laugh, it is a riotous sound 🙂

The Dog on the Tuckerbox

This one is very close to the bone for us being only an hour’s drive away. It’s a real piece of history and a dreadful thing to have happened. Apparently the vandals have been caught.

Having a whale of a time!

What a great capture of the surfer and the whale! I’d like to think this photo is real – what do you think?

I’m so proud of my little sister

She has worked so hard and deserves the rewards – definitely a winner 🙂 As she’s a blogger and photographer as well, I thought I’d share her latest post – Confluence – she’s a great thinker and writer!!!

This story proves you are never too old to achieve your dreams

A 90-year-old graduate from Bairnsdale says it’s never too late to study – you can read the full story here.

It is not every day a 90-year-old receives a master’s degree — and it is even less common for them to complete the whole course online.

Returning to study in her late 80s via distance education meant Mrs Prendergast had to adjust to changes in technology.

But as a former telephonist and librarian and having studied her family history, she was up to the challenge.

“One of the things that took a while to get used to, was when I had to have photographs and presentations and that type of thing, took a little bit of time,” Mrs Prendergast said.

How inspiring is that? Which leads us to the next story…..

Ageing well in August

Now that July is over, Sue has a new challenge planned for August and again I’m joining her as her co-host. Everyday in August she has a prompt and will be sharing her knowledge and experience throughout the month either on her blog or on Facebook. Here’s the list, so feel free to join in if any of the daily prompts take your fancy! You can read her post here – August theme reveal – Ageing well in August

And to finish the week here’s a great quote I spotted outside a book shop

  1. Another interesting assortment Deb – congrats to your sister for doing so well (anyone who actually attends a gym regularly gets my vote – I hate gyms!)
Loved the kookaburras but I don’t think I’d want them on my balcony railing every morning – I imagine it would get quite riotous at times!

  2. Hi Deb, another fun and enjoyable Winners and Losers and I appreciate you promoting my guest post and also Ageing Well in August. I read about the lady from Bairnsdale and thought it was timely considering my theme for August. You are definitely too old. I also look forward to your native Australian animal posts and the kookaburras would definitely be a riot if they all started laughing together. Have a fabulous week and look forward to your next instalment. x

  3. So much to love in this post Deb. Love the FB quote (so true), that riot of kookaburras (aren’t they gorgeous) and how about that lady in Bairnsdale. So inspiring. Proof that we’re never to old to really hit our stride. Have an awesome weekend. xx

  4. Brilliant as always Deb especially the Facebook quote. Always think how sad people are when I see them constantly on FB. Proper books with real writing are just the business.

I’ve been doing really well at the studio lately and increasing my strength every day it seems.
Can you believe I do it without complaining??
