Going Yellow for #SundayStills

This week #SundayStills is all about yellow, one of my favourite colours.

What’s with all the yellow bikes?

This question is often asked as people drive around our area – Tumut, Batlow and Tumbarumba. Yellow painted bikes of all sizes can be seen on fences, gates, buildings, businesses and in paddocks.

The yellow bikes are simply a way for people to show their support for the concept of Rail Trails.

We have the honour of being the first Rail Trail on public land in NSW, with the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail being a pilot program from the NSW State Government and managed by the local Snowy Valleys Council. Happily I can say it is finally in the process of being built, after many years of hard work, mainly from a hardy group of volunteers (including us). We obviously have a number of yellow bikes on our property fences showing our support for rail trails 🙂

Supporters in the nearby towns of Tumut and Batlow are also trying to get approval for a rail trail in their area and came up with the idea of painting old bikes and using them as a conversation starter and a show of support. Other towns have used a similar idea and different coloured bikes – but here it’s yellow!

Sunday Stills – what’s it all about?

Terri from Second Wind Leisure Perspectives, is the host of Sunday Stills and very generously offers a photo prompt each week on a Sunday! Like minded people can write a post, share a photo or two and see how others have interpreted the theme each week. It’s a fun way to engage with others and share photos with a wider audience.

And it sometimes makes you think – which is good for our brains as we age 🙂

  3. I totally disliked yellow for most of my life. Then I started to get serious about art and patterns and found yellow to be colour that made other ones look better. Then I remembered what my late Mum told me about arranging colourful plants like pansies: add some yellow ones in between the darker violet ones and they will be seen. Now you are showing me all about the yellow. Go yellow!!

  6. I will check out Sunday stills. A lot of my photo challenges have gone…but I have to say, I love the photo of the top view of the bansia (bottle brush? what is it?). I would never have thought to look at it that way and isn’t it magnificient??!!

  7. Yellow is such a happy colour isn’t it?! I love the yellow bikes and what you’ve all accomplished with the rail trails. Too bad I can’t ride a bike!

    1. Thanks so much Terri, it has been a great way to start a conversation about the yellow bikes. Interestingly those against the rail trails have put up a red bike with a black cross through it – not nearly as eye catching as the yellow bikes and funnily enough there aren’t as many of them around either!! A great theme for this week, thanks again!

    1. Thanks Janis, I am soooo happy I can wear yellow, it seems to be very on trend at the moment but as you say not everyone can wear it! The bikes are a great initiative aren’t they?
