Taking Stock for #Lifethisweek

It’s time for a Taking Stock post for Denyse’s #Lifethisweek.

I wasn’t sure of the proper format for Taking Stock posts, so asked Denyse for the list she uses and she kindly shared it with me.

The idea, for me anyway, is to read the word and answer without giving it too much thought, usually the first thing that pops into my head, because that’s how I roll!

Taking Stock

Making: A fuss over my daughter who has become a new mother just days ago – oh and the baby too – he’s our first grandson 🙂 (You can read more about this exciting event in my February wrap-up post)
Cooking: Not much and only when I have to.
Drinking: Weak black tea – as usual. My daughter tells me I’m addicted – there’s worse things I could be addicted to!
Reading: Our Book Club book, The Dinner by Herman Koch, even though I won’t be able to go to the discussion due to being away.

Reading books
Reading books

Wanting: To be understood.
Looking: At my new baby grandson.

Debbie jumping for joy

Playing: My ‘Jump’ Spotify playlist, road trips are good for mixed tapes.
Wishing: Time travel was an option (so I could visit my daughter and granddaughter in England).
Wasting: Wasting time wishing for things I can’t have (see above answer).
Enjoying: Riding my bike.
Waiting: For life to settle down a bit!
Liking: All the family time I’ve had lately.
Wondering: Who invented mosquitoes and why??
Loving: My three grandchildren and their very clever mothers.

Love

Hoping: This corona virus doesn’t get to pandemic stage.

Marvelling: At the amount of rain that’s falling.
Needing: A massage.

Smelling: That new baby smell.
Wearing: Shorts and t-shirts and thongs (on my feet)🤣
Following: My husband as we cycle around the place.
Noticing: How lush it is here in Queensland compared to home.
Knowing: Life is good!
Thinking: How fortunate I am.
Feeling: Happy.
Bookmarking: Blogs to read.
Opening: Our rail trail opens very soon, working hard on making it happen!
Smiling: At life 😀

Whatever you’re up to, make sure you smile, it makes your face light up 🙂

  1. Hi Deb, I loved reading this post. Even though it’s short, it really does share some of your you-ness. The quick responses that we don’t spend time mulling over and evaluating can be revealing, in a good way! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love Herman Koch. The Dinner is such an excellent book (the movies are stupid). I also enjoyed Dear Mr M and to a lesser extent The Ditch (and the summer house with a pool didn’t work). I just LOVE his work, even when it isn’t as good. But The Dinner…what a GREAT book!! (My mum said, after reading Dear Mr M “I don’t think Koch would be a very nice neighbour…” hehehehe) #MLSTL And Congrats on the new baby. How exciting!

    1. Glad to hear you enjoyed The Dinner Lydia, unfortunately I’m away when our book club discusses it so I’ll miss all the talk! I haven’t read any of his other work. Thanks for the congrats, we’re enjoying being around for a few weeks.

  3. You have much to be happy about. I would be missing those grandbabies too- that must be hard. My children do not live near me, so when I become a grandmother it is going to be difficult since they will be a plane ride away! this week I am happy about all of the snow melting and hoping we can get our bikes out in a week or two!

    1. Yay for getting the bikes out Michele! We’re just back from another ride now so I know the feeling well. I do have a lot to be thankful for and I’m very happy 🙂 I just can’t help but wish we lived closer at times, but that’s only natural I suppose.

  4. Deb, you got me at “Who invented mosquitoes and why??”. They come me, and I have a continuous supply of bites for some funny reason they don’t like Les, might have something to do with the luscious taste of chemo 🙂

  5. Congratulations on the addition of a boy baby to the family. They are different (der) but I also add I became (and still am) close to my grandsons. Only 2 of them…and 6 granddaughters.

I loved catching up with you here too.

Thank you for joining in Life This Week. Next week’s optional prompt is Share Your Snaps. Hope to see you linking up too. Denyse.

  6. Love this list, both the words and the answers. I especially appreciate the inclusion of “Wondering” and “Noticing” things I am trying to encourage in myself and others in a different context. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Whos said time-travel wasn’t an option? Don’t worry, it soon be, but you’ll have to wait a few years before it happens. It’s still being tested out (to make sure it’s entirely safe.)

A fun post, Debbie. It looks like you’re continuing to enjoy everything life is throwing at you. Don’t forget that you can throw a few things back at it. If you stop doing so, it may become boring.

    1. Thanks very much Deb, it’s a wonderful feeling as I sit here right now cuddling him. I could put him into his bed but he’s very comfortable and I’d hate to upset him 🥰 yes the life this week is alway a fun prompt or you can link any post to the link up. Lovely to hear from you.

  8. Congrats on being a grandma once again and yay for a grandson! So much to smile about in this post. I guess with grandbabies down under and the UK, you must feel a bit like me as an expat, whether you’re in Australia or the UK, you always feel like you’re missing someone 😦 Apart from the missing vibes, so much to smile about in this post! I enjoyed taking stock with you 🙂

      1. Hi Deb – just back for #MLSTL and I re-read your list and really liked all the mentions of being happy – I just noticed again this morning how happy I feel – little things unsettle me at times, but overall I feel very content and I think you’re getting to that point again too.

  10. I know that you know this.. but here goes:
Mosquitoes  provide food and pollination. The larvae of mosquitoes provide food for fish and other wildlife, including larger larvae of other species such as dragonflies. Only the females bite…and they do prefer some people over others! 🙂
