My Shout Out(s) this week go to….

1. World Prematurity Day November 17

This is an advertisement made by Pampers all about having a premature baby in NICU/Special Care and says a lot.

I won’t lie, it made me shed a few tears!

My daughter wrote a lovely post on Facebook, about how she was feeling looking back on this time last year when Dottie was still in hospital, but preparing to come home. So much was ahead of them all, given Dottie had arrived at just 25 weeks gestation.

It was very fitting that we arrived into England on World Prematurity Day last year – it was the first time the Mathematician met Dottie and we were able to spend a few months getting to know Dottie and helping out.

Shout out to all the parents, friends and family members who have been down this particular road and support each other in any way they can.

2. Forage – Merchant + Occasions

A new business has opened up in town and it is a little beauty!

Dez runs a lovely little place, located in an old former church, selling flowers, soaps, garlands, nature inspired bits and pieces, old wares, fashion items, and timeless designs. It is a real pleasure to pop in and have a look around, and even the Mathematician enjoyed having a squizz this week!

So if you’re in Tumbarumba to visit friend or family, work, ride the rail trail, or just passing through – take a moment to stop in and say hi to Dez! Tell her Deb sent you 🙂

Shout out to Dez for all her hard work! She has great plans for the future so we can’t wait to watch and see what happens next.

3. My friend the Artist and the Art of Learning

A huge Shout Out to my friend and former work colleague, Daragh, for her first ever solo art exhibition at Artists on Parade. The exhibition is all about her journey with learning and as a celebration of her overcoming the fear and self-doubt that has plagued her for many years. The exhibition is aptly titled ‘Art of Learning’.

Daragh has been an educator for many years and I worked with her in a challenging correctional centre environment where she taught literacy to male inmates. She was always creative in her lessons which helped draw the men out and involve them more in their learning. It was a challenge at times!

I was amazed with the variety in her artworks on display in the exhibition – landscapes, portraiture, macro fruit, leaves, flowers, birds, animals – all done in a range of mediums. She is very talented and I’m proud of her!

Are you keen to share something or leave a shout out to someone? I hope so – all you have to do is leave a comment or a link!

Has someone done something nice for you, have you witnessed a random act of kindness, have you read something interesting or watched a good movie lately?

Anything really – it’s up to you!

As always, feel free to share and get the word out there #ShoutoutSaturday

Thanks again for all your support, it’s much appreciated.

Deb 🙂

  1. I’m always shocked when I read your email and it says that it’s Saturday when it is only Friday afternoon/eve here!! That is mind blowing. Anyway it’s 01.26 here now so I really must go to sleep. I’ll read your fab words in the morning 😊.Before I nod off I can tell you about the Wotton Lions Club who raise thousands of pounds every year and donate to good causes in our community as well as abroad. Every Friday they hold a ‘meat draw’. I have two numbers in the draw every week because it’s a great cause. I haven’t won since I first entered about 4 or 5 months ago, but last week I won the joint of pork, and this week, guess what – I won the joint of pork! Ironically my hubby and I no longer eat meat however our youngest son who is now back home is very pleased indeed!!😊 xx

    1. That’s a fabulous effort Ann, well done to Wotton Lions Club for their efforts. As a Rotarian I can relate to the good causes in the community that benefit from service clubs like Lions and Rotary. You’re a winner – twice – how awesome is that?? It is very ironic that you no longer eat meat but I’m sure your son is very happy! Thanks for joining in with despite it being Friday where you are 🙂

  2. Hi Deb, it’s lovely that there is a special day for premature babies and their families. Many people wouldn’t be aware of how special NICU staff are unless they’ve been in the situation of seeing a baby in the NICU. I’m so happy Dotti is thriving.
My shoutout is for my mother-in-law, the strongest person I know and 85yo. She has terminal lung cancer but you wouldn’t know it. She’s such a positive person who refuses to stop living life on her terms. We’re praying that she makes it to her birthday in 3 weeks because we’ve planned a high tea garden party for her.
    Have a great week,
    Christina

    1. Hi Christina, your MIL sounds wonderful, a spirited personality and I wish her well for her upcoming birthday. Maybe we share the same birthday as mine is in 3 weeks too :). All the best for the week and thanks for joining in.
