A big welcome back to Shout-out Saturday
Happy Saturday to to you wherever you are in the world.
It’s time to share some favourites.
I started #Shoutoutsaturday last year as an attempt to share some good vibes, have some fun and to allow you to share what you’ve found interesting during the week.
I decided to continue on with it this year and hopefully spread some joy.
But first what’s the meaning of giving a shout-out?
A shout-out is a short public acknowledgement of someone or something, especially by name. It’s usually to recognise someone in appreciation of them or something they did.
What’s Shout-out Saturday all about?
Shout Out Saturday is where I invite you to join me by leaving a link or a comment, to something that has had an impact on you recently:
You can leave a link to a post on your own blog, or maybe something you’ve read on someone else’s blog, or tell us about your favourite blogger, or simply share some good news, or even just drop in to say hello….

For the first shout-out of the year I offer you these tasty morsels:
- The lamb advert. Every year (or so it seems), for Australia Day, the Meat & Livestock Australia release an advertisement for lamb, and I for one have always found them entertaining to say the least. This year is no exception, but once again it has upset a few people. I’ll let you be the judge.
Some background information that might help explain the ad:
A new spot from Australian Lamb imagines a future where social distancing has been cemented in society – literally – by erecting walls across state lines.
Opening with panoramas of an Australia bisected by vast barriers that recall the Berlin Wall, the spot is set in the year 2031. With its states separated, the ad predicts discord between those on either side.
Hope comes in the form of a nice roast lamb, however, as lonely citizens reconnect over barbecue passed through a crack in the wall. Inspired by the taste, the spot shows Australians uniting to tear down the walls with tanks, battering rams and pickaxes.
“2020 has been a year that has really tested the Australian spirit. For the first time in our history having hard borders between states has challenged how to stay connected as individuals and as a country,” says Graeme Yardy, the domestic market manager at MLA.

- Boundless Playground in Canberra
I went to this playground for the first time this week with my (very) pregnant daughter and 2yr old granddaughter. It wasn’t their first time!
It was a joy to see all the activities available and to play with the equipment which was well thought out, interesting, challenging and fun. There were lots of other families enjoying playground, and considering it was only just 9am when we got there, it’s obviously a popular hangout!

Boundless—The Centenary of Canberra National Playground is Canberra’s first all abilities playground, located on the shore of Lake Burley Griffin at Kings Park.
The Boundless Playground caters to different levels of ability. It is a place where children, young people and their families can play, socialise, explore, challenge physical limits and make new friends. Boundless is a free, state-of-the-art play space that is fun and inclusive of all children of all ages and abilities.

- Promoting staying active
A few of my favourite bloggers have written about innovative ways of staying active when we can’t do the type of travel we’ve been used to doing in the past. It seems virtual travel combined with exercise are becoming the new norm!

Everyone has a story to tell!
Deb is a young-at-heart & active 60+ blogger/retiree, after being made redundant from her 22-year career managing education programs in a men’s correctional centre (jail). I agree with you about the lamb ad. Every year these ads are special and have something to say about out Australian way of life. But this year they have gone to a new level and hopefully our borders will be back to normal well before 2031.

Just saw that lamb ad yesterday – brilliant! Also, I’ll have to check out that park. I can’t picture where it is so I’ll have to look it up. Always on the lookout for new parks and kiddie excursions.

Hi Deb, I’ve been looking forward to the return of Shoutout Saturday! My shoutout is for my husband who turned 53 today. Phil has been my rock , especially in the last year. I couldn’t have got through it without him. He’s the kindest, most caring man.
I love that ad. The borders between states has been one of the hardest aspects of the pandemic for me. I wish that we’d stayed as one country rather than cut off from each other.

Absolutely love that lamb advert! It’s my favourite meat, and it would certainly have made me want to tear down that wall too!
Playgrounds have certainly changed a lot since we were kids haven’t they? So much fun to be had there for all age groups. (Even grannies 😉 )

Hi Deb, great to see Shout-out Saturday back and thank you for the Shout-out! I spent some time with my grandsons this week which is always fun. I like the idea of a playground for all levels of experience. I’m a beginner and prefer the swings LOL:) I’m also a fan of sunflowers because you can’t help smiling when you see them. Hi Deb – that lamb ad was all over my FB feed this last week – as it is around this time every year! Very clever ads. Loved the playground – we have one that the grandgirls love because it’s full of natural climbing activities etc – so much nicer than all the modern “safe” stuff you see everywhere else.

Hi Leanne, thanks for stopping by, The lamb ad has been getting some airing lately and I actually thought it quite clever. I’m more into noticing playgrounds these days and am thrilled with the amount of variety there is and not so safe all the time – that’s just boring!

That playground makes me smile. All children should be able to enjoy a playground experience. We visited my daughter in New Mexico when she lived there and they took us a delightful all abilities playground. In addition to all of the equipment, there were creative ‘musical instruments’ that children could play with. There should be similar playgrounds in all cities!!

Yes I agreeLeslie, all children deserve such a wonderful experience. This one also had musical bells, and pipes and a xylophone to play which was music to my ears! Granny’s were able to do all the activities too, thank goodness.
