It’s time to share something!
1. A special little man turns 1
This time last year I was up here in Queensland waiting for news of the arrival of my newest (at the time) grandchild. This year I’m up here to celebrate his first birthday. Where has that year gone? A lot has certainly happened in that time!
He is almost walking, loves taking you for ‘walks’ as he practices his newfound skill, cruises the furniture, plays happily, loves his swing, reading books and gives lovely snuggly cuddles. He is a delight!
Huge shout-out to my daughter and SIL for their parenting during what has proven to be a testing year in many ways. Huge shout-out to Patrick for being such a sweet little man.
Let the party celebrations begin! We’ve made the cake and are ready to party, first birthday style 🙂
2. Tumbafest
Tumbarumba has held an annual music, food and wine festival on the last weekend in February every year, called Tumbafest for the past 24 years. At one stage it looked like this year it wouldn’t happen, but despite COVID conditions it is going ahead, with smaller numbers and other restrictions in place.
We have been to every Tumbafest since its inception, usually in some form of volunteer capacity, but in recent years as mere spectators, along with family and friends. This year for the first time ever, we will miss it! Our grandson’s first birthday takes precedence.
I took this photo last week while out on a bike ride around town, and put it on my Facebook page, where it went ballistic (almost viral) with so many views and shares it’s not funny! This is where Tumbafest will be held, along the creekscape and park in town, behind the main street. It’s a beautiful place!
Shout-out to all the organisers and volunteers who help keep Tumbafest alive even in these tough times. Hope the many locals and visitors enjoy their weekend of fun.
3. Road Trippin’
When you drive 1700kms for a birthday party you need to stop along the way! We reached out to old friends we haven’t seen for a while and ended up stopping the night with them. It was so much fun reminiscing and catching up on the years. Ros and I met through Nursing Mothers ( a breastfeeding support group) when we had our first babies and have stayed in touch over the past 30 years or so.
A funny story – the Mathematician was walking the Kokoda Track in 2009 with a group of high school students and ran into Ros and Brian walking the other way! You couldn’t have planned to meet up like that but they randomly met on a hill in the middle of the jungle.
Shout-out to Ros for her friendship and support over the years, despite us not seeing each other in person for many many years!
4. Natalie’s Weekend Coffee Share

Happy first birthday!! I hope you had fun celebrating (it sure sounded like it). I also love that you have these long standing traditions (tumbafest) and friendships! That is amazing and says a lot about the kind of person you are. Not many traditions and friendships can withstand the ‘test of time’. Kudos.

Loved your shout outs. How fun to celebrate your grandbaby’s 1st birthday. What a cutie, I just had my 2nd grandbaby born, a girl, on Feb. 9th. My daughter was a rockstar.

Thanks Kirstin, we are thoroughly enjoying spending time with my daughter and her family and helping out where we can. Being 1700km away from them is hard at times, so we make the most of every opportunity. Congrats on the brith of your granddaughter, that’s very exciting!

Handsome, sturdy birthday boy. Love his chubby leg wrapped around you. The creekscape is so quaint and inviting. I can imagine sprawling out on the green with a soft blanket and enjoying a picnic while listening to the music. So picturesque.

Yes Leslie, Patrick is very sturdy and such a cute little man. He is a bit poorly at the moment and not sleeping well so we are helping out as we can while we are up here. The creekscape is a lovely place to relax 🙂

Hi Deb – Patrick is such a cutie and you must be in Granny heaven atm. I was impressed that your Tumbarumba shot went almost-viral, but it certainly is pretty and I imagine it will be even more so when the festival is on. I’m also enjoying Natalie’s Weekend link party. x

Hi Leanne, Patrick is a real little cutie pie and we are loving having time with him. He’s not been sleeping too well so we are able to give my daughter a break and have time with him on our own, which is special. When I say my photo went viral, I’m not suggesting world wide viral just in comparison to my usual posts 🙂

So lovely that you could make the trek to this young grandson’s first birthday. Still it must have felt different not being home for Tumbafest. Nursing mothers …what a great connection and group. My husband’s fave cake is the Simplicity Chocolate cake from the NMAA cookbook I got in 1976. Talking of birthdays,we are just back from celebrating my husband’s 72nd at our son’s house. First time we have all, 2 kids, 8 grandkids & i partner have been together since my 70th in 2019. Enjoy the boy!! Denyse

Yes Denyse, it’s been a great trek up north but worth it! Your husband and Patrick share a birthday 🙂 I did miss Tumbafest but family takes precedence as you know. Nursing Mothers was a great resource for me back in the day with their cookbooks and other useful merchandise. I always credit NMAA as being my start in gaining confidence in myself to take on new challenges and growing into who I am today. So glad you got to celebrate B’s birthday with family, so good for you all.

Hi Deb, enjoy your time in Queensland! Happy birthday to your cute grandson. My news is that I can finally see the end to my long recovery from bilateral mastectomies. Thanks to my very supportive GP, exercise physiologist, psychologist for getting me well again. My boss has been so supportive with allowing me time off to heal properly, and she’ll let me work at reduced hours for 8 weeks. I’m hoping to be back in April, 11 months after my surgery. Shoutout to all the people who have helped me get this far.
