Road Trippin’
Three days of driving, and three days of afternoon storms with heavy rain battering us along the way.
It certainly made for some interesting views during our 1700km road trip!
Some of the storms were so bruising we actually had to pull over off to the side of the road as it was safer than trying to soldier on! The rain drops were so big and heavy, not to mention the lightning and thunder.
Hot and humid
We eventually made it to Queensland where the weather is hot, steamy, stormy and oh so humid. I’m not used to the humidity but the rain when it comes is quite refreshing before things get steamy again!
But we are near the water so the skies are beautiful and after the rain there is always the possibility of a rainbow, as there was this morning 🌈
What’s the best thing to do when it rains?
Jump in puddles of course!
I’ve enjoyed sharing some rainy day shots from our recent travels. We are very fortunate to be able to travel here in Australia, and I definitely don’t take it for granted believe me.

Driving in belting rain can be scary and I have been known to pull over. Of course, I know how excited you were to be going to Qld and why but February and humid …well, thank goodness for air con!!

We have rain so rarely that it is a photographic event when it happens. I like the shot of the rain on the wind screen. And I like the words wind screen for something we call wind shield. So interesting that we speak the same language, but have such different versions!!

You did not have to look far to find rainy day photos, Deb. You logged significant kilometres in a short amount of time. Seeing family and friends, a treat. The rainbow over the boats is stunning. I actually love the rain and my white noise is pouring rain to help me sleep. Thank you for sharing a fun and interesting post.xx

The worst is driving when the weather is like that. It’s hard to relax when you’re driving or a passenger.

That’s so true Pete, it was a tough few days of driving when the rain hit but in between times it was quite pleasant.

Some great photo’s there. I love the rain but I don’t like driving in it! I know what you mean by the Qld humidity. I live here but don’t cope very well with it. We had stormy, rainy weather on our recent holiday at Burleigh Heads and it was actually quite nice because it kept the humidity and general heat down and I still got my walks in. Once it cleared up we had beautiful blue skies but the humidity was unbearable!

Thanks Min! We’ve managed to get our bike rides in so I’m happy! I’m so glad you enjoyed your time away and it’s more about the change of scenery and people we see rather than the weather isn’t it?

Well done Grant driving in those conditions, not easy. I miss hearing the rain on a roof top! At least you had some fun capturing the raindrops during the long drive.

I enjoy driving in light rain, there’s something very me against the world about it. You’re in your bubble, hurtling along, and the rain streams down outside unwavering. There’s something charming about it. The clouds, rainbows and light beams certainly don’t hurt either! Beautifully captured.

Oh yes, it’s certainly been humid and hot here lately. We haven’t had any rain in my part of the state so we’ve had the high temperatures but not quelled by the rain / storms which usually happens in Qld.

Even today the clouds are starting to form up as if it will storm but many times it’s just a show and no action! I’ll be going home to real ‘autumn’ weather which will feel strange after getting used to this heat and humidity!!

I really like the day 2 shot – the blue mixed in with the rain. I also love trying to take photos of rain in the distance but I can never get it working right. I love that you can see where it’s a storm and where it starts and ends. I’m still a little scarred from the fires and drought so am very happy still when it rains. I guess that will wear off eventually but, for now, it keeps me cheery when the weather is cr$p

Yes that one appealed to me too Lydia with the big fat rain drops hitting the windscreen. The fires are in our memories too as our house was in the direct path until a late wind change saves it but ended up taking out other houses instead. I love trying to capture storms and rain shots so this prompt was very timely.

Hi Deb, I love a good stormy afternoon but not when I’m driving. When Luisa was dying we had to come home to collect some things and drive back to Brisbane. Both times, there was torrential rain on the freeway and you couldn’t see the car in front. I’m glad you arrived safe and sound and yes, to hot and humid Qld although the last few days I can feel Autumn starting to arrive. Always love a rainbow too! Hope you’ve enjoyed your holiday and spending time with that gorgeous grandson of yours. xx

Hi Sue, stormy weather is great to try to capture while a passenger in the car, I’m glad I wasn’t driving through it at the time! I’m thinking your autumn is very different to ours as the mornings at home have already started being decidedly cooler temps. I will appreciate the crisp air when we get home that’s for sure but I’ll miss spending time with my daughter and grandson. It’s been great to see them again. And also to catch up with you!

Yes, what Leanne said, Debbie! But all that rain is not fun, nor all that safe to drive in either! We had similar conditions when we drove from Calfornia to Spokane through Oregon–it rained the entire time in Oregon and I also got road splash from following hubby’s truck! Nice pics of the road and thank you for taking the time out to share your rainy day(s)!

aaaah Queensland summer. I got caught in a downpour driving back from the station on Thursday and had to pull over – couldn’t see a thing. When it rains up here it really rains.

Sure does Jo but five minutes later there is blue sky all around!! Home is getting a tad cool in the morning so I’ll probably miss the humidity when I get back!

They look pretty intense storms! The contrast between the photos of the boats at the marina is so pretty, those blue skies – please send some our way!

Yes they were pretty intense Deb but it was worth it to be with our daughter and grandson. The marina is just beautiful to look over every day. Sending blue skies your way 😀
