A month of photos during September

During September I joined my friend Denyse (and others) in her ‘photo word’ challenge, everyday throughout the month. I mainly shared mine on Instagram but sometimes on my blog’s Facebook page too.

Denyse set the words in advance, and invited others to join her using the following hashtags – #ShareSeptember2021 #oneword #onephoto #30days – on any social media platforms they use. I’ve joined in every day this month and enjoyed the challenge of trying to think outside the box!!

Days 23-30

The word #love was from the first week of the challenge and I decided to share my photos from the week in a wrap-up post all about love, as all my photos fitted the theme of love very well. The second week the words were about values and connections and last week the words were another good mix of strength, likes, honour and peace, I’m cheating this week by including Thursday’s photo a day ahead of time.

This week the words are – Enjoy, Being, Touch, Compassion, Reflect, Growing, Celebrate, Freedom – I’ve had a huge amount of fun, and put a lot of thought into what photos to use for each word. Enjoy!

Day 23 – Enjoy

My sunroom is a place where I can relax, unwind and read in cosy comfort, mostly all year round. I enjoy nothing more than sitting out here in the late afternoon watching the colours dance around me, as the sun sets in the west.

Day 24 – Being

Today I’m being a domestic goddess in the kitchen. Yes, I’m releasing my inner Nigella. I’ll be baking up a storm with my online Bookclub buddies over Zoom – we’ve just finished reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë and we’re making a different version of the famous Bakewell Tart. Wish me luck as I’m not known for being a particularly good cook!!

We always have a cooking session once we finish a book, something from that time period that they may have made themselves. It’s so much fun!

Day 25 – Touch

Touched by the sky – can you see the heart ❤️ shaped cloud? A random sighting as I walked in the paddock yesterday, and just what the world needs more of at the moment – love, sweet love!

Day 26 – Compassion

My photo, someone else’s quote. This one seems very relevant to today’s world.

We can’t heal the world today, but we can begin with a voice of compassion, a heart of love, an act of kindness.

Day 27 – Reflect

Reflections in the dam, with the beauty of the night sky. A nice way to be reflective.

Day 28 – Growing

Tulips are one of my favourite flowers and this time of year is perfect for growing them.

Day 29 – Celebrate

Late last year, to celebrate my 60th birthday, my daughters had this print made for me. It was our family at the time, and as we couldn’t be together to celebrate, this was the next best thing. Since this celebration we have welcomed little Zachary to our family, he was born just 6 weeks after my birthday.

The girls went to a lot of trouble to have it as close to real life as possible with me wearing an orange dress, (because I love orange), my daughter in England is wearing her trademark thongs (flip-flops), one daughter is holding her pregnant tummy and my youngest daughter and her little family is a spot-on replica. As you can imagine, I was absolutely thrilled with this thoughtful gift and it helped me celebrate turning 60 with a smile on my face.

Day 30 – Freedom

Although I’m sharing this photo a day ahead, it says all I need to say about freedom. Sunshine, blue skies, fluffy white clouds, bunting, being bold in midlife…what more can I ask for?

We’re free of winter, we live in a beautiful part of the world, we have a lot of freedom and I appreciate everything I have in my life. I’m living a bold life and I am grateful! Yes I would like the freedom to travel more, to see my family interstate and overseas, but at the moment that’s not possible – hopefully soon!

I appreciate that this isn’t actually a wordless post, as I’ve said about my previous wrap-up posts, but I make the rules on my blog!

This is the last week of this challenge, so I wonder what I’ll do next week?

Debbie - mother of a 40 year old

Deb is a young-at-heart & active 60+ blogger/retiree, after being made redundant from her 22-year career managing education programs in a men’s correctional centre (jail). She now spends her time reading, blogging, riding her ebike and travelling. Deb was awarded a Bravery Award from the Queen when she was 17 after a tragic accident – a definite life changing moment!       1. That’s what I find with baking as well – the more we do, the easier and better it gets.

        It took me a while to get started baking bread, but once I got the ingredients & kitchen set up, and the process going, it’s hard to imagine a time when we didn’t bake our bread.

  12. Truly a super fun month of joining in – some of your sharif reminded me of February 2016 when I had a daily blogging challenge and really immersed and had so much fun- I have had plenty of other months doing that but 2-16 was special
    Anyhow / the reflect photo is my absolute fav of this post.

    1. Thanks Leanne, it’s been such creative fun doing this each day and I’m happy to share what I’ve thought up for each word. I’ll admit to you that the title of this post had me laughing to myself :). I love my family and know they love me too, foibles and all. x

  14. I am so glad you shared this with me just now and your post exudes joy, contentment and now HOPE because soon, we “will” have greater freedom! I will always love that image you had from the family for your 60th and the words are beautiful too. I did enjoy the challenge of making up the challenge…but as you know I am actually slowing down a bit, and tomorrow will be the last IG post under that account.
