Seeing Blue #PastSquares

Past Squares Day #9

In a past holiday we came across this blue cockerel in Trafalgar Square in London. It was certainly an eye catching piece of art and stood proudly on the Fourth Plinth for some time. The artist was Katharina Fritsch.

The press release issued by those who chose it as the winner of the commission stated:

The sculpture … communicates on different levels. First of all is the consideration of the formal aspect of its placement: the mostly grey architecture of Trafalgar Square would receive an unexpectedly strong colour accentuation, the size and colour of the animal making the whole situation surreal or simply unusual. The cockerel is also a symbol for regeneration, awakening and strength and finally, the work refers, in an ironic way, to male-defined British society and thoughts about biological determinism.

These are some of my favourite square blue shots from my archives – a blue door, blue sky with fluffy white clouds, blue sky and green paddocks, tree &blue lake under a blue sky.

Becky has her Squares challenge going again for the month of October, where we can share any photo as long as it’s square, on the theme of Past something – these are some of the past themes for squares so there’s lots of choice! Today I chose the past square theme of Blue.

Her latest post is An almost Wordless Past and her first post in October explains the theme of Past, in more detail.

Have a great week.

Deb 🙂

  1. Glad you have lots and lots to do and distract you at home (blogging, photography, trips down memory lane) in this time of not so good travel periods. Revisiting what you saw and being such a traveller I know you must be itching to go again. Fingers crossed for sooooon.

Thank you for linking up for #LifeThisWeek. Your post is a welcomed contribution to the community. Next week, the optional prompt is Self Care Stories. Instead, for me, I am doing a Wrap Part One of Women of Courage stories. I hope to see you next week too. Denyse.

  2. Lol I can just see all the open mouthed tourists standing around wondering what on earth were they seeing. He is/was a lovely shade of blue and sits nicely in your square.
They didn’t have a crowing recording playing every now and again did they? Now that would have been fun😊
    Take care

  3. I love the colour blue! That cockerel certainly would have got my attention too. It stands out! I’m a bit out of touch with all the challenges going around in the bloggy world. Probably because I’ve been so consumed by my own! Hope you have a fabulous week!
