Hello to all the bold and beautiful people out there!
In case you don’t know me, let me introduce myself.
I’m Debbie and I’m 60 years young.
Young at heart, feeling young in body at times and young in mind.
I truly believe we don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.
I’m also being Bold this year, here’s my bright new business card to prove it!
My Word of the Year (#WOTY) for 2021 is BOLD. My original post – 60 years old and feeling BOLD – sets the scene for my year, which is fast coming to an end. My monthly updates can be found here!
Showcasing my bold photo for October
Each month I try to have a photo that shows boldness. This was me pretending I’m a midlife ‘influencer’ with my new Fox and Leo glasses case – I made it into their Instagram story!
And also me in my bright, bold and colourful dress at a flower workshop with friends. My dress was a perfect match for the flowers 🙂
So how did October go – or as I’m calling it Bold-tober??
My words for BOLD this month are Beautiful, Outside, Local and Darlings.
Beautiful – So much about Bold-tober was beautiful – the weather, the new freedoms, the spring flowers, family catchups and my colourful new dress! October had a pink tinge about it with spring blossoms, clothes I wore, my new glasses case that matched my dress perfectly and that feeling of being ‘in the pink’ – you know that feeling??
outside – We spent a lot of time in the great outdoors – riding our bikes, walking, weeding the garden (yes I did!), planting new hanging baskets and pots, playing with the grandchildren when they visited plus reading in the sunroom. Such a lovely time of the year.
Local – As the state came out of lockdown, things started opening up and we were keen to support local businesses, many of whom have done it tough over the past few months. The Tumbarumba Garden Club held their annual Spring Garden Festival, with many locals opening their gardens and raising money for local organisations. There were also picnics in the paddocks, scarecrow competitions, sculpture, flowers and photo displays plus free live music with a pop-up gin bar outside on the grass at a local business – it finished the month off perfectly! Sunshine, friends, music and gin – what more could you ask for?
Darlings – After 9 weeks of lockdown, I was able to finally see and cuddle two of my grandchildren, the Granny cuddle drought was officially over! It was so good to see them. It was also Grandparents Day on the last Sunday in October so I shared some lovely photos of my four gorgeous grandchildren – after gaining their parents’ permission of course. I’m looking forward to seeing Patrick at Christmas time and will start planning a trip to the UK to see Dottie for sometime next year.
What else did I get up to in October?
- Lots of exercise – zoom sessions with friends, bike rides, walks – I’m feeling good!
- A family photo challenge – A Word a Week – a great way to stay in touch with everyone
- We came out of lockdown here in NSW and I was able to visit my nearest grandchildren, 3 hours drive away, for some much needed granny cuddles! Then a visit from them the following weekend – too much fun!
- Bookclub meetings – online and in person – always fun!
- Visits with my mum.
- Catch ups with friends, including a great surprise birthday party which involved champers, flowers and food.
- Participated in a photo shoot to help some friends out with their business!
- Birds on Bikes – I applied to be an Ambassador as I’m a bird and I ride a bike 🙂
- Local Spring Garden Festival and open gardens.
- Live music plus pop-up gin bar on the last Sunday in October!
I hope you’ve enjoyed my latest edition of Becoming Bold. Let me how you’re going at the moment, I’d love to have a chat with you.

You don’t have to understand life. You just have to live it.

How true – we get old when we stop playing! I never want to stop playing. I’m determined to keep as young as possible in mind and body as I can, and attitude is so important. Glad to see you got some recent Granny cuddles in!

It really is true! Great attitude to have and I’m pleased you’re also embracing this way to stay young. Granny cuddles are the best.

Deb, you sure did pick the right word. BOLD is a an attitude that sits well with you. Keep it going. I think, as many might have but you did not, your attitude is what has kept you going in the varied ways in which lockdown and isolation has changed us. HUGE congratulations on that. This post was so joyful and colour filled….a beauty!
It’s been great to have your blog post linked up for the week on Life This Week.
Thank you so much. I look forward to seeing you next Monday too. The optional prompt is Sharing Your Snaps (photos).
And a big thank you for showing your appreciation for guest blogger, Mr Whelan, in 2021.
Take care, Denyse.

I really like your new business card. I got new ones when we moved, went “beachy” but they ended up too washed out and actually quite hard to read. I guess my next approach will be bold! I also really like the “hello”. Mind if I steal your idea?

Thanks Pat, feel free to steal my ‘hello’, it was part of a template I used on a site to make the cards and suited me perfectly!

I love this post! How joyful! (and I love the gin bar and live music concept!!). I think you nail it with the ‘playing’ aspect of life. I think that winds up for a lot of people…but why???
