Happy Birthday to me in snaps for #lifethisweek!

Yes I am now another year older

I don’t feel any different, but it dawned on me at one stage today, I’m no longer just 60, I’m now 61. I was quite happy with the number 60 and no doubt I’ll just carry on pretending I’m still only 60 as i don’t feel any older!

Never stop climbing and you’ll never be over the hill!

So far this is the oldest I’ve ever been

It seems I have written a birthday post every year since I started blogging, it’s now become somewhat of a tradition.

This post will be a quick summary of my birthday celebrations for Denyse’s Life This Week linkup with the prompt of Share Your Snaps.

A hectic week

Considering I’m retired, I’ve had a hectic week leading into my special weekend, with hosting a Rural Doctor’s Network medical student Asher (on behalf of our Rotary Club), attending functions, showing him around and generally trying to be a good hostess. He was an absolute delight to host and we hope to stay in touch with him in the future.

I met up with a friend to discuss our appointments as Birds on Bikes Ambassador and we enjoyed a good old catchup. I suddenly saw a face I recognised on their Facebook page and got excited when I realised it was me!

This was the post: Introducing our next Brand Ambassador – Debbie Harris! Based in Tumbarumba, NSW, Debbie is an award winning midlife blogger who loves her family, travel and treating life as one big adventure. She has ridden a bike most of her life and loves nothing more than a cycling holiday in Australia or overseas. You can read her story here. https://bit.ly/3IApSwK

The Mathematician and I also worked all day on Friday, with approximately 50 primary school students, on an outdoor activity day. Later that afternoon my daughter, SIL, 3 yr old granddaughter and almost 11 month old grandson arrived as planned for the weekend. And then the fun started!!!

We had a great time cooking, painting, playing in the garden, going out for lunch, swimming at the local pool and enjoying the family time, it’s been a bit light on during this year! I also chatted with my two other daughters over Facetime.

I had a special birthday cake cooked for me with delicious purple icing (at Emilia’s request)!

Special flower delivery

My daughter (and her family) in the UK arranged a delivery of beautiful flowers from a local business and they came as singing telegram (sort of) 🙂 So thoughtful and they smell divine!

A surreal moment

We also went to the local pool which was weird!

As I walked into the local pool with my 3yr old granddaughter and my daughter, I was taken back to when we arrived in Tumbarumba and I took my three little girls to the pool for the first time. My youngest was only 2ish at the time and here I was now taking my granddaughter to the pool and the weirdest moment is that the pool supervisor is the same guy! Yes he’s still working at the pool and remembers us arriving for that first swim. We had a good old catch up and he asked after all the girls and their babies.

I told you it was weird! Small towns- gotta love them.

Then on my actual birthday we had my local Bookclub Christmas party and they were all very sweet about celebrating my birthday as well as our end of year catch-up!

I wore my new red Christmas dress and couldn’t help but get a photo showing off my new arm muscles! I’ve been working with my trainer on-line and am proud of my results so far. I’m not usually keen on sleeveless dresses but I decided to go for it this year. It is my year of being Bold when all is said and done!

My daughter also braided my hair for me which was nice for a change!

Happy birthday to all the December babies 🙂

In between all that my blogging buddies hosted a Festive Bonbon linkup and I’m still playing catch-up with all the fabulous posts people have shared.

Thanks for all the birthday messages I received – so many messages, comments, calls and good wishes. I am definitely feeling the love!

Deb xx

PS. Although we took lots of family photos I haven’t asked my daughter for permission to use them yet, so will just go with these ones for now.

  1. Happy birthday again Deb and I love the colour of your red dress (and your new arm muscles). It sounds like you’ve had a fabulous lead up to your birthday and being a brand ambassador is pretty special too – congrats. Glad you got to share time with the family too – nothing beats that xx

    1. Many thanks Leanne, it was an online purchase (the dress not the muscles) from Sussan and I love the style and colour. It’s now my Christmas party dress. Family being able to visit was just the best present!

    1. We live in a very small town Geoff and everyone who has been around for three decades or more knows everyone else!! I’m sure it wasn’t anything to do with me arriving back in the day in a red strapless bikini :). Thanks Geoff!

  2. Happy birthday, fellow Sag! No doubt your birthday (month!) has been busy and full of joy, Debbie. So much for being retired…I’m always amazed at how time flies when your time is not obligated by work. I chuckled when I read your public pool story–you are very memorable and undoubtedly look the same as you did 25-30 years ago. And that pool supervisor must love his job! Enjoy your summer and rest of the your week!

    1. Yes us Sag people know how to celebrate Terri 🙂 I had to laugh when i shared the red dress photo as back in the day when we first arrived in town I sported a very glamorous red strapless bikini, so I was probably memorable!!

  3. A very happy birthday Debbie, lovely that you had a family birthday. It was my hubby’s birthday also and we had a fairly low key birthday dinner.
I had some bad news about my dad and that put a damper on things. We will probably fly back to the UK in January to be with him for a few months.
Merry Christmas to you, if I don’t catch you again 🎅 before Christmas

      1. Thanks Debbie, trying to organise things. How hard is it trying to link my gov to Medicare and then get a Covid passport! All names have to be the same as your passport. I’m going to be on the phone all day again

  4. Great to hear your birthday week was so special and topped off with family time. I can totally relate to the pool story. The guy who floods the ice at my home town rink (who was also my bus driver for a couple of years) is still going strong so he’s seen my kids and grandkids. I was helping my brother do farm chores this weekend with my grandkids and it transported me back 30+ years! Time marches on and you are embracing it boldly. Take care. Bernie

  5. I love that you are so busy and I love the purple icing. The water play shot is fantastic. As an aside on Rotary, I came 4th in a Canadian Rotary Short Story Competition. I get nothing except an Honorable Mention….but the pat on the back felt good all the same. Happy Christmas to you and have a wonderful break. See you next year.

    1. Oh wow, a Rotary connection Lydia! The water shot was taken under the fountain looking out, I loved the way the water was falling in sheets. Thanks for your good wishes, see you next year!

  6. Happy Birthday Deb! I know you will make 61 a lot of fun! Sounds like an action packed Festival of Deb – how lovely that you got to celebrate with the family. Red is definitely your colour. Also can you write a blog post and share the secrets of your reverse ageing, you look fabulous!

    1. Oh Sammie, you gorgeous girl you!!! I think my mother is to blame for the ageing process being so kind as she is amazing at 83! I also know how to edit photos and always pick the best ones to share, some of the others would show a different version of me altogether 🙂 But it’s my blog so I can pick what I want to share!

  8. Of course your granddaughter chose purple. That’s a rule….lol. I do love how you celebrate and it was all so lovely with a mix of memories and nostalgia too. I admire your strong arm work!! I have been learning to ‘like’ my big and floppy arms more and won’t actually NOT go sleeveless…life is too hot. So pleased it was all a great celebration as you deserve.
Thank you for your wonderful support of my blog’s link up Life This Week in 2021.
Yes, there is one more week to go, but if you are already taking a well-earned break, I will see you again in Monday 4 January 2022.
May you be well, may you be safe, may you be content. Denyse
