Fresh Fun at a Festival with Family and Friends #SundayStills

Fresh means different things

I like the word fresh, it has lots of different meanings – fresh as in the weather is a bit on the cool side; fresh as in fresh food; fresh as in a bit lippy or talking back, can apply to toddlers and teenagers alike; fresh air; fresh ideas; fresh as in something new; a fresh attitude, full of enthusiasm and vigour….there are just so many ways to be fresh.

Fresh Festival Fun

Fresh changes from the Government last week, saw the lifting of mask mandates and singing and dancing being permitted – which was great timing for our town’s annual music/food/wine festival, Tumbafest. We all had to be vaccinated to attend the festival, show proof of vaccination and try to maintain a safe distance at all times.

It meant the festival attendees could get up and dance along to fabulous bands all weekend and the biggest crowd of dancers was for Aussie star Jessica Mauboy and local star Fanny Lumsden. Despite the rain starting just as Jessica began her set, the crowd stayed singing and dancing along with her. My 3 year old granddaughter loved the music and danced up a storm in the rain – we stayed away from most of the others in the mosh pit to be safe but we still managed to have a great time.

Tumbafest is held in the great outdoors, in the fresh air, and with a fresh group of volunteers helping to ensure it runs smoothly, along with a paid event co-ordinator to pull it all together.

We had family visiting us for the weekend and it was lots of fun!

Fresh Ideas

Adjacent to the festival were community markets which could be accessed from those attending the festival and the general public who just wanted to go to the markets without paying the entry fee to attend the weekend’s festivities. This was fresh idea introduced a few years ago.

I had a great time wandering around the markets looking at all the various creative types who sold handmade items, gift ware, clothing, fresh food, knick knacks and wonderful hats!

Mum wanted to look at the hats and we had a very entertaining time trying on all manner of hats. Mum chose a great hat for herself and I had no intention of buying one. Mum had other ideas and in the end we chose this great olive green hat for me, with some fun help from other customers 🙂 I now have a fresh new look! Did I mention we had a fun time?

I stopped and spoke to Rochelle, who had a great looking stall selling recycled unique clothing. You can see more at rochelletoni.com.au

We got talking (as I invariably do) and I learnt that her small business is all about quality clothing made using vintage and up-cycled fabrics. The fabrics have been rescued from entering landfill, and many people now regularly drop blankets, sheeting, denim and all manner of ‘old’ fabrics to her so she can repurpose them into quality clothing. It was amazing to see a child’s vest made of old blankets, I recognised the blanket fabric from my own cupboards, and it looked very stylish! Such a fresh idea and of course I bought a few things 🙂

Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.

And then to top off a great weekend of music, family fun, dancing in the rain, sunshine, food, wine, gin, and time spent chatting to friends, this rainbow appeared and made us all smile. I always see rainbows as offering fresh hope and happy days ahead!

    Women always- always look better than we men-types do in hats?
    How is this possible or fair?

  3. Tumbafest looks so enjoyable! I like your hat too. Hats are so fun! By the way, there’s an area in Stockholm called Tumba… I don’t know whether it’s a good or bad area.. but haven’t heard anything bad about it yet.

    1. Hi Susanne, thanks for your comment on my hat! Yes we’ve been to Sweden but didn’t get to the place called Tumba. Our Rotary Youth Exchange students from Sweden have commented about it in the past too. I’m sure it’s all good 🙂

  5. Enjoyed seeing your festival and laughed at Mum and me trying hats as that’s something my Mom and I seem to fall into at fairs and boutiques. And your Laura Ingalls Wilder quote was one I had originally picked out for my post! It fit well. Thanks for getting fresh with all of us!

  7. This sounds like a great day out. We have similar festivals but they’re often very commercial nowadays. My favourites are the agricultural shows, where there are parades of animals, flower tents/judging and stalls selling all manner of things. You picked an excellent hat! Thanks for linking

  9. Nothing like a country town extravangaza to bring the community together…congratulations to all who make Tumbafest happen! It’s not often our mums buy us anything once we are “grown up” …and this gift from your mum is a very special one!     1. It was so much fun Denyse and a great stress reliever from all the troubles around the world these days! Mum and I had a laugh trying on hats and she insisted on buying me one so I couldn’t refuse! Looking forward to #lifethismonth 🙂

    1. It all went well Sammie, although there are reports of Covid cases from the weekend -which I’m not surprised about to be honest. We stayed away from most of the crowds, hanging out with a select few!

    1. Thanks Janis, I had fun choosing my new hat which involved lots of others in the vicinity! The duck race is fun but also a great fundraiser for the local football club, they make a fortune from it.

  17. Looks like you all had a great day – I’m looking forward to spring here when we can do more outside! And that hat looks great – it’s so fun trying hats on. I was thrown out of a hat store (in my twenties and being very silly with my friends) because we were trying on expensive hats. Still a great memory!

    What a beautiful rainbow. So good it all went ahead as planned, what a treat to see Jessica Mauboy sing as well.
    We are still in the UK and Covid finally caught us both, I have gone down like a ton of bricks dropped on me and still recovering. Hope to be back in WA in a few weeks. My blog is being sadly neglected
