My Magnificent Magnolia

I am a huge fan of magnolia flowers and it seems that at this time of the year I always write or share photos of my beautiful magnolia tree – and why not?

When I see a magnolia, I am reminded of the beauty and potential that exists in all of us.

Magnolias tell me spring is underway and although there’s still a wintery chill to the air, the trees know it’s warming up day by day. Even though the flowers don’t last all that long, I love the significance of them. It’s all about hope.

As we’ve just returned from a trip overseas, where it was very warm, the shock of going back into winter has hit me hard but my magnolia tree gives me hope 🙂 Maybe it’s the impact of changing seasons and spring being in the air, but I always feel happier when my magnolia tree flowers.

I haven’t technically kept to the theme for this week’s Sunday Stills but I don’t think Terri will mind.

My tree is getting pretty big these days – we can’t remember how many years it’s been in, but it rarely disappoints. It always makes me smile. This is a shot from just the other day.

  9. Hi Debbie – I’m popping over here from my blog after you popped by from Terri’s blog. I just love how the blogosphere creates so many fun new connections. I’ve never seen a magnolia tree in person, only in photos. They are beautiful, I can see why you’re smitten with them. We’re just heading into the fall, and you’re heading into the spring.     1. Hi Shelley, thanks for stopping by! I do love my magnolias and every year they get a run on my blog. This year for some reason they also flowered in January which is very unusual. Take care 🙂

  10. Your magnolias are gorgeous. We had some at our church in Woodlake, CA, but I haven’t seen any here. Of course, it’s not the season now. Thank you for sharing these with me. Are you wanting to link up with WQW – the topic sight? This post works for that challenge.

  11. Hi Deb I also love Magnolias and was pleased to see you posted about them with beautiful photos. I have a very pretty delicate white magnolia near my front door. I was so happy to see it flowering when we moved in. I love seeing the magnolias flowering at the end of winter, on their bare branches, when there are little other signs of life in the garden.

  12. Hi Deb, thanks for sharing a pop of Spring as our Summer begins to fade. Magnolia’s are every Southen gardener’s landscape staple, not to mention being a popular nickname for sassy southern gals. I’m sure you have heard the term ‘sweet magnolia.’ Great close-ups.

    1. Thanks Suzanne, I have heard the term (and movie?) but never really understood what it meant! I could be a ‘sassy southern gal’ as I’m in the Southern Hemisphere and a bit sassy at times!!! 🙂

    1. Hi Bernie, they really are pretty but not much good for picking and displaying inside due to their short stems, although I’m sure some people mange to do it! I just love driving up to the house and parking my car under them and on a carpet of magnolia petals once they start dropping! Thanks for your comment.

  16. Oh, how I miss the magnolias in my former Sacramento neighborhood, Debbie! You have your own tree (I had to borrow my neighbor’s trees for pics). Stunning close-ups and I thank you for sharing your musings and for sparking a wonderful memory for me. We had the pinks and some more purple varieties! Happy spring to you, my friend!
