We are thrilled to announce a new monthly opportunity for bloggers to showcase their creativity.

Gail from Is this Mutton invited me, Deb from Deb’s World (Australia), Mary Katherine from MK’s Adventures in Style (USA),  Penny from Frugal Fashion Shopper (UK) and Jill from Grownup Glamour (Australia) to join her for a new monthly challenge “Tell Us About…”

On the third Thursday of every month we’ll respond to the prompt “Tell Us About XXX” which could be absolutely anything. And how we respond is also wide open.  It could be a blog post with our opinions or reminiscences; a poem,  photos. 

To start us off Gail has chosen the word TIME –

I once spent a whole year looking at TIME!

In 2019 I chose TIME as my Word of the Year (WOTY) and I wrote a monthly post sharing how I’d used my time, what I’d learnt and what was in store. I shared a variety of quotes, photos and thoughts.

These were some of initial thoughts when I chose the word TIME:

  • TIME for self
  • TIME for others
  • Take TIME
  • Make TIME
  • Give TIME
  • Lose the guilt in relation to TIME passing
  • Use TIME wisely
  • Try not to waste TIME
  • Down TIME
  • Limit TIME on social media
  • Make the most of TIME

The year of being more of Time was very useful and made me slow down and appreciate the time I spent on things. I tried to reduce wasting time, make the most of my time and to make time for others as well as myself.

I do like being punctual and would rather be early for something than late. I have tried to limit my screen time and set myself timers for when I’m doing things where time can just pass by in a flash.

I have definite times of the day/week – blogging time, reading time, family time, exercise time and down time. There’s always time for a cup of tea too!

Time is ticking…

As we age, it’s imperative that we use our TIME fully as we get to a stage where we have far more time behind us than in front of us – what a sobering thought that is!

In the meantime I’m all about making the most of my time with my WOTY for 2023 being Explore. I’m planning on making time to explore places, feelings, foods, books, music, relationships, creativity (like joining this challenge) and having fun while doing so. I’m all about being curious and adventurous!

Celebrating Time

This month the Mathematician and I have notched up 43 years since we said ‘I do’, that number blows my mind!

But then again, we are off to help our eldest daughter celebrate her 40th birthday in England in May this year – so it must be right!

Just a few short years ago!

In some ways I don’t feel much older than I was when we married – I was only 19! – but in other ways I am much older and wiser. Time has a way of marching on!

I know some people don’t like celebrating birthdays as the numbers get bigger but I’m in the camp of looking at the alternative to ageing! I’m happy to celebrate with friends and family and really don’t care who I tell that I’ve recently turned 62!

It’s important to me to celebrate milestones like birthdays and anniversaries – how about you?

I wrote this poem using magnetic tiles quite a few years ago for a challenge I was doing and it rings even truer today than it did back then!

Sweet friend of time

Final thoughts

This post went places I wasn’t expecting it to go, I started out with an idea and it went in a completely different direction! do you find that happens sometimes?

    And I love your approach to age and birthdays – I agree they should be celebrated
    And your posts reminds me that Paulina (former wife of The Cars Okasic) wrote a book called “filter” and I think it touches upon topics of time as mentioned in this post!

  5. Oh, I want to join you gals for this series. Gail said she will be emailing the prompts. I can’t wait to see what February brings.
    You pick the most meaningful WsOTY and truly live them. Looking forward to seeing what you do with EXPLORE. Jump was such a fun WOTY when you chose it. You were a darling young bride but you are a beautiful wife, mother and grandmother. Congratulations on your 43 years of marriage.

  8. Such an interesting read! I’m with you on celebrating birthdays. We can’t avoid getting older so we might as well make the most of an excuse to do something special! Thanks too for starting this new challenge. I’m more photographer than writer as you know, and I have a lot of challenges I like to do quite regularly, but I suspect you will lure me into joining the fun in due course – especially as it’s just monthly 😀

    1. I completely agree Sarah, we may as well make the most of it and celebrate for all we’re worth! I like mixing up my blog with photography and words so hopefully it works ok! We may be adding a linkup to it for future posts, just to try and include others who want to join in.

  9. It’s interesting that “time” was your word of the year. I may read some of those posts because I am working to change my relationship with time. Like you, I’ve never been worried about age or tried to hide it (I’m 59). And yes, it is a bit sobering knowing there is more behind you than ahead.

    This is a marvelous new challenge, and I had fun joining in.

  11. What a fabulous idea to have a word of the year! It must make you look at things differently, especially time! And I love that your word this year is explore…I bet that will encourage you to have so much fun! 42 years of marriage is wonderful, isn’t it? My husband I will celebrate 25 years this year (I’ve just turned 47) !

  14. Hi, Deb – Congratulations on this new linkup. I like the idea of a unique prompt each month. I love that your post took you in a different direction than you had originally planned. Writing is like that – ideas and characters seem to take on a mind of their own.
