International Day of Happiness
Today is a day to be happy!
Since 2013, the United Nations has celebrated the International Day of Happiness on 20 March, as a way to recognise the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world.
What makes you happy?
For me it’s all about spending time with family, having fun, good friends, travel, blogging, reading, e-biking, a cup of tea…and sometimes a few days away on my own (like this week).
Away on my own for a few days
I’m currently away from home, staying in the cottage at a friend’s place while my husband is walking with 3 others in the Nadgee National Park on the Sapphire Coast of NSW for the next 5 days.
My husband loves hiking and if he had a choice he’d rather be out walking with friends….

Over the weekend it was fortuitous that I had to be in this area for a Rotary training session, so I got a lift down here on Friday (6 hours drive), stayed with my friend Julie in Eden and attended the Rotary sessions with her, before moving on to Jeff and Deb’s studio cottage in their garden.
While at the training sessions I often looked out the window at the view of the blue sky and sparkling water and wished I was outside rather then inside! But sometimes you have to just do what you have to do!

I would much rather have been out there enjoying the warm day and beach but….at least I got to see the beach in the afternoon.

Home for this week…I’m more than happy to have some quiet alone time here. I’ve got my computer (obvs), books, my bike and car so I can get out and do some exploring or stay in and read!

I’d rather be HAPPY – how about you?

Sunday Stills Photo Challenge
Terri, from Second Wind Leisure, hosts Sunday Stills photo challenge, with the prompt this week being : I’d Rather Be…and you can read Terri’s post here
Feel free to join in, it’s a fun challenge open to everyone with a different prompt each week!
Finally
So what would you rather be doing?
My advice is to try and do something that makes you happy today
Have a great week!
Deb x

Hi Deb sending you hugs for International Day of Happiness! I would rather be on my cruise although now that we are renovating I’m very happy being at home admiring our handiwork! x

Thanks for the hugs Sue , right back at you! I can imagine you’re keen for your cruise but you’re making great progress on the home-front, so should be proud of your efforts 🙂

So much fun in this post, Debbie! Your hubby looks quite content with his man-time! You did get this post up quickly, I’m glad you tied it into Int’l Day of Happiness (I didn’t know). Play and our choice of leisure time should always make us happy and be an everyday occurrence! Sounds like your time at home will be quite nice. Enjoy!

Thanks Terri, it was a fun post to write and share International Day of Happiness at the same time. I’m enjoying my time away and exploring this area.

The only thing better than a sunroom in your own backyard is a lovely little cottage stay in someone else’s backyard! Glad you’re taking some quiet time in your busy life and that Grant gets to do something he loves. Ross is a huge hiking fan but he prefers to go alone and have some days of solitude in the process – works for me – I get to do my solitude in a more comfy location 🙂

It’s so lovely being away like this on my own Leanne and I’m thoroughly enjoying the change of pace. Grant is going well and even caught a fish yesterday, I didn’t know he could fish!

What a great tie-in for the two challenges. And the connections keep going for Bendigo (Grant’s buddy’s shirt) and Merimbula. Our Bendigo friends call that their happy place, and our son even visited them there. They also do rotary. Appreciate that quiet time. I feel like I rarely get this, and so when I do, I love it. I love being happy. I spent some time today video chatting with my kids, grandkids and granddoggy. I miss them all, but technology is wonderful.

Yes Carla. technology is wonderful especially when the grandkids live far away. A quick video chat with grandkids can make my day too 🙂

It’s certainly been good so far even if the weather has turned a bit cooler than I was expecting.

Choosing to be happy (when at all possible) is always the right choice. Whatever I’m doing, I am always more engaged when I am happy!

I would rather be…traveling, painting other rooms in my house, gardening, figuring out where I went wrong on my sweater!
You have the best scenery ever!

Deb, after cruising for nine days with my husband and two other couples, a solo stay in a friend’s backyard cottage sounds like heaven. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved it, but one can only take so much noise. Today is a sea day, so I have carved out a little quiet time for myself. Ahhhh…..
