Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 and Beyond

Sue is a wonderful person, beautiful inside and out with a creative and open soul. She is a great friend to have and I’m so lucky to have met her twice now in real life! Each time it was just as if we’d known each other for years and we hardly drew breath for the few hours we were together.

I featured Sue a few years ago in my People of Interest series and you can read her post here – Meet Sue.

Sue comes up with great ideas to share on her blog and in her Facebook pages and groups. She is also studying to improve her knowledge and skills. She inspires me and many others with her friendly, supportive and encouraging nature. I happen to think she is just wonderful.

With everything else she has going on, she agreed to write a Guest Post for me, in response to one of the prompts in this month’s #JournalinginJuly challenge and I happen to think it’s a beauty!

Leave a comment after you’ve read it to let Sue and I know your thoughts, we love your interaction 🙂

Thanks Deb for firstly being my ‘partner’ in #JournalinginJuly and also for the opportunity to be a guest at Deb’s World.

My Favourite Season – Prompt for Day 23

When I looked at this prompt I realised that I had covered this back on Day 13 with My Favourite Time of Year, so when Day 23 came up I decided to look at the prompt from a different angle for my guest post.  I also wrote another take on the Seasons of Life in my own post for the #JournalinginJuly Challenge Week 4.

How each Season of Life cycle teaches us to live a better life

Like the seasons, our lives move in cycles – some are good, others happy, others not so good and some are comfortable.  Each ‘season of life’ cycle brings its own life lessons and helps us to improve, learn from those lessons and live a better life.

Spring

New beginnings, new possibilities.  A feeling of excitement and anticipation.  The times in our lives when we experience joy and happiness as we work towards goals or try new things.  These are the times when we feel enthusiastic and uplifted.  Motivated to achieve and frankly have a ‘spring in our step’ – life is good!

During these times we learn that we can achieve our dreams and goals.  We are capable, we are strong and YES WE CAN!

Summer

Excitement, long days, sunshine, ocean.  The Summer Cycle of our life is when life is wonderful.  We are in full swing, enjoying each day with vigour and feeling alive.  Life seems like it can’t get any better than this.

Autumn

The Autumn cycle to me is one of contentment.  Nothing major is happening but we feel contented, happy and enjoy a less hectic lifestyle.  The Autumn Cycle to me brings balance and a time to just ‘be’.  It is a time to reflect and be grateful for all the things in our lives that sometimes we take for granted.  Life can get so hectic, so the Autumn Cycle is a good time to turn inwards for some self-reflection and gratitude.

Winter

No-one is immune to the Winter Cycle of life.  Life can’t always be rainbows and unicorns.  The Winter Cycles are the cycles where life is difficult. We face the ‘downside’ of life such as loss, grief, obstacles, stress, anxiety and feel lost and alone.  It is during the Winter Cycle that we build our resilience and strength as we cope with these difficulties.  None of us enjoy the Winter Cycle but it is probably the most valuable cycle for learning from life’s experiences.

As with each year the seasons change and as we move through each one so does our life.  We may experience Winters in our life but there are many Summers, Springs and Autumns which will come to balance out the Winters and to experience a life well lived.

Thanks so much to Sue for sharing her thoughts about the seasons of life and I’m sure you’ll agree it’s an interesting way of looking at our life 🙂

About Sue:

Hi. I’m Sue! I live in Brisbane, Australia with my husband, Mike. We have a blended family—we both have two beautiful children each, two gorgeous grandsons on my side, and three wonderful grandchildren on my husband’s.

I started this blog in my late 50’s because I believe that age is just a number.  And I proved it to myself by starting running at age 50 and completing my first full marathon (42.2 kms) when I was 55.

And now, I’ve passed the 60 mark, it doesn’t matter what I’m doing –running, working out with my husband, or working with Women 50+ to achieve their goals —I embrace an ageless attitude. I am intent on wringing every bit of enjoyment out of this wonderful time of life.

My purpose is to help and encourage women in midlife to reach their full potential by living with an Ageless Attitude, Getting Active and Living a Healthy Lifestyle.

Thanks for joining Sue and I today, I trust you’ve enjoyed reading Sue’s thoughts as much as I have.

Deb 🙂

  1. Hi Sue (and Deb!)
I am enjoying the different slant that you took on the Seasons. And I totally agree with every word.
Today my season is summer…we are warm, content, fairly active, happy. But I know that winter can come and cancel summer in a heartbeat. So I am enjoying the sunshine for today.

  2. Nice post, I think my favourite season is Autumn as the weather is more consistent and there is so much going on leading up to Christmas and the New Year that it’s an exciting time.

  3. Hi Sue and Deb, you guys make a great team and I have thoroughly enjoyed this month of Journal writing prompts. Sue, I love your use of seasons as a metaphor for life. Winter is coming…..until then, I tend to live in a perpetual state of Spring and Summer, both physically and emotionally (South Florida only has two seasons). I do what I can during periods of Fall to fortify, correct my balance and be ready for the challenges of Winter.

  4. Hi Sue – loved your take on the seasons of life. I certainly experienced Winter over the last year or so, and it’s nice to have come out the end of it and be in Spring again. Great seeing you here guesting on another favourite blog of mine xx

    1. Hi Leanne, it’s always great to have guests on the blog isn’t it and Sue’s take on the seasons was really creative! We are away on the coast at the moment and already the magnolias are flowering as if it’s spring whereas at home they’ll take another month or two before coming awake! Thanks for being a favourite of mine!!

  5. Hi Sue and Deb, It is great to be part of a team, even if blogging sounds like an individual sport. I love your take, Sue, on the seasons of life and resulting life lessons. Summer is non stop around here, and continually trying to catch our breath. I am glad we are close to the Autumn cycle of balance. I have learned to deal with Winter cycles when they appear. I try not to look too far ahead and hopefully I have built some resilience during the other seasons. Great post!

  6. Thanks Sue. I love how you’ve made the analogy into seasons of life. I think the thing about winter is to appreciate those different textures and colours.

    1. Hi Donna, great to have you drop by! I’m a bit like you, the current season is always the favourite although autumn gets me most with the colours and then spring because everything is waking up….I’d like a bit more warmth at the moment I know that!
