2024 Reading Challenge

My Goodreads Reading Challenge 2024

Welcome Readers!

At the beginning of 2024 I’ve set myself the challenge of reading 110 books. I managed to read 140 books in 2023 and this year I’m also going to try the 52 Book Club 2024 Challenge for the first time – mainly to read more variety and different genres.

I’m in two bookclubs – a local group where we meet each month in person with a book supplied from the local library and a small online group which meets over Zoom every few weeks.

I bloody love books

In our online group we’ve been reading the Classics – starting with the Bronte sisters & Jane Austen, slowly in pre-arranged chunks, and incorporating a cooking session after we finish each book. We moved onto other classics in 2023 and we’re continuing these in 2024 and beyond.

As a group we also started a monthly blogging challenge in 2021, What’s on your Bookshelf, and encourage others to join in to share their love of books.

I have included links to Goodreads on each of these titles, so if you want more information on what the book is about, click the title and away you go! I read a wide range….just saying!

Please note I’m fairly strict with what I give 5 stars to, so you can be assured that these are my favourites. It’s all about sharing the love of reading so I base my ratings on whether I’ve enjoyed a book enough that I’d recommend it to you once I’ve finished it. Obviously we all have different tastes!!

My personal rating code is:

  • 1* did not finish/terrible – wouldn’t recommend
  • 2* OK – not necessarily worth recommending
  • 3* enjoyable – might recommend to the right person
  • 4* really good- would recommend
  • 5* excellent – definitely would recommend

Let’s see how many I get up to this year! I don’t set any rules or follow any plans, I just read what I feel like, what friends have recommended and what takes my eye. I rarely start a book and not finish it, but it does happen sometimes!

Are you on Goodreads? – you can join me 🙂

What did I read in 2023?

I read 140 books last year and had set my goal as 120 books! My post with my top reads can be found here.

I’d love to hear what you’re reading too. And any recommendations are always welcome 🙂

  1. My online book club very much enjoyed Lessons in Chemistry. And PC and I enjoyed the first season of the TV series. But I just hate that months and months pass before the second season becomes available. My poor 65 year old brain forgets everything in that period of time. Hoping 2024 is a stellar reading year for us both.
