Bucket list images of New Zealand

I rarely offer advice on my blog, instead I like to provide information and let the reader make up their own mind. This week Terri’s prompt for Sunday Stills Photo Challenge is all about Bucket List Images.  But if I was to offer advice…. If I was to offer advice I would gently suggest that New Zealand should…

Prolific in a different way – thongs and bras in New Zealand!

Prolific thongs and bras New Zealand is a funny place! It is known for being prolific producers of sheep, netball, rugby, and cricket champions. AND then there’s a different sort of prolific. On one island there was a fence full of bras – in honour of breast cancer awareness and research…. And on the other…

Travel Blog: New Zealand #10 – Road trip, rocks and pennyfarthing fun

My last post had us leaving Dunedin on our way up the coast towards our eventual destination of Christchurch.  As we left Dunedin we checked out the steepest residential street in the world, Baldwin Street, and a lookout over the city.  At morning tea time we made an impromptu stop at Waitati, visiting a gallery and made…

A Sentence a Day for November: Adventures in New Zealand’s North Island

November – in a Sentence a Day Halfway through this year I joined some wonderful bloggers from around the world, for the Sentence a Day writing challenge, (you can find links here to my posts for June, July , August, September and October posts) and it seems like I’m now hooked on doing these monthly Sentence a Day posts! We all link…

Getting excited for New Zealand

Can you believe I’ve been so busy and taken up with weddings, family issues and life in general that I haven’t yet managed to start getting excited for our upcoming trip to New Zealand’s North Island?? We only leave later this week, in 2 days time! I’m still in Brisbane as I write this, having…

Travel Blog: New Zealand #9 – Around Dunedin

Dunedin After finishing our cycling tour on the Otago Rail Trail we had two days planned in and around Dunedin.  It was a wet cold day as we walked the few steps from our Chapel Apartments to collect the hire car (how handy was that?).  We asked the guys at the desk for their suggestions…

Travel Blog: New Zealand #8 – Hyde to Middlemarch (final day of cycling)

Final day of cycling (day 5): Hyde to Middlemarch – 15 November 2016 It poured with rain overnight but the morning dawned cold with heavily overcast skies. We set out after breakfast for the final 30km hoping the rain would hold off and it did! The open Strath Taieri plain was flat riding with green…

Travel Blog: New Zealand #7 – Wedderburn to Hyde

Cycling day 4: Wedderburn to Hyde – 14 November 2016 This was another big day starting off with an earthquake in New Zealand’s South Island just after midnight. I can’t say I felt the earth move but I do remember waking and thinking someone was walking around the cottage as there was a real rattle…

Travel Blog: New Zealand #6 – Omakau to Wedderburn

Cycling day 3:  Omakau to Wedderburn – 13 November 2016 This was a big day in lots of ways! 42 kms of riding, tunnels, bridges, a variety of scenery, ups and downs, hard surfaces and a long hill. The afternoon was booked up with a session of Curling at the Maniototo International Curling Rink, so…

Travel Blog: New Zealand #5 – Alexandra to Omakau

Cycling day 2: Alexandra to Omakau – 12 November 2016 We woke to quite dark skies and heavy rain overnight but everyone keeps telling us that it doesn’t rain very much in this area. It’s looking very green everywhere so it’s been quite a wet season so far. Apparently the average rainfall is only 300mls…

Travel Blog: New Zealand #4 – cycling tour gets underway

Cycling tourism The Central Otago Rail Trail on New Zealand’s South Island, has been on our to-do list for quite some time now. It’s simply a disused rail corridor which has been turned into a trail for cyclists and  walkers. The land was owned by the railways, so years later after the trains had stopped…

Travel blog – New Zealand #3

Day 3: Queenstown, gondola ride, sunshine, bike riding, wandering Today was our last full day in Queenstown so we decided to do some of the local attractions before we move on. Grant chose to walk up the very steep slopes to Bob’s Peak while we caught the Skyline gondola – a much easier way of…

Travel blog – New Zealand #2

Day 2: Queenstown, Crown Summit, Cardrona, Bradrona, Wanaka, Glendhu, Puzzleworld, Cromwell The day started out a bit overcast with rain overnight, but it turned into a magnificent day of warm sunshine and blue skies. I managed a brief morning walk and captured some fishermen preparing for their catch of the day. Lake Wakatipu looked a…

Travel blog – New Zealand

Day 1: Queenstown and surrounds  Waking up to this view from our Queenstown apartment after getting in late last night. Yep that’s snow up there on The Remarkables.  Room with a view!  Out for an early morning walk along the lake.  Driving to Glenorchy and stopping every few kilometres to take photos of amazing scenery! …
