Many years ago we went to Paris with our three young daughters. We arrived late at night in summer, and drove around the city oohing and aahing at all the bright lights.
Being Australians it was a dream come true for all of us. Neve had we imagined we would be one day driving around Paris!
Our youngest daughter was 4 years old and was particularly taken with the golden lights of the Eiffel Tower. She fell in love that night.
The next day we spent the day walking around the city seeing the sights. She refused to believe it was the same Eiffel Tower, the one she had seen the night before – in her words it wasn’t golden!
Many years later we were in Paris again, this time with my parents (both in heir 70s), sitting on a barge on the Seine, preparing for our 2 week barge and biking tour from Paris to Bruges! The group was getting to know each other and our guide suggested we take a walk along the river after dinner that night. We came across a group dancing on the river bank and we were transfixed – the night lights of Paris, the Tango, the music – the feeling of pure joy has stayed with me all these years later.
Ahh the memories of travel!
Given that Australia is an island and we can’t travel anywhere too far away from home at the moment, I decided to use this week’s #SundayStills as a reminder of some of the places I’ve been to in past travels, especially those featuring night shots.
Here in Tumbarumba it doesn’t get dark until close to 9pm at the moment. I just love summer nights!

And when the sun decides to go down it is quite spectacular!

Thanks Terri for another great prompt for #SundayStills – remember Sunday can be any day!
Remember to go boldly into the night!

Are you kidding with those kangaroos at sunset? I could try for a year to get something that incredible and adorable and come up short! So cute.
And then there’s the bridge in Budapest – you guys look like a couple of kids!!
The night lights in Canberra. Wow!! Magical.
Great captures all!

Oh Leslie, it was one of those ‘in the right spot at the right time’ sort of shots believe me! But I do like it a lot :). We loved Budapest and would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks for your lovely comments, you always make me smile.

Fabulous photos and what lovely memories. I have amazing memories of my first visit to Paris with my daughter. We stayed at The Hilton (she was working for them at the time) and our room had a view of the Eiffel Tower. Each night we would sit on the bed and watch with anticipation for the sparkles to start. I wasn’t initially impressed with Paris and thought it quite cold and aloof, but it grew on me.

Lovely photos Deb, you’ve visited some great places but Tumbarumba looks equal to all of them. Like the yellow coat and furry hood in Budapest.

Thanks Jonno, I agree Tumbarumba can hold it’s own with some of those places! I love that yellow coat 🙂

Thank goodness we have photos to review when we can’t travel, Debbie! I love your daughter’s description of the golden Eiffel Tower. Your night shots are pretty amazing and I can’t get over the amount of light in the image of you and your hubby in Budapest! And of course the silhouette of the kangaroos. Stunning!

Thanks so much Terri! It was so much fun doing this and remembering our travels. The Budapest photo is fabulous, maybe it was the street lights casting so much light on us? The kangaroos are a favourite of mine too!

Thanks for sharing your travel memories with us! I loved reading about your young daughter’s disbelief that the Eiffel tower in the daytime was the same one she had seen at night! 🙂
