Shades of evergreen for #SundayStills

What is an evergreen tree?

Apparently, from my extensive research :), this pine tree is an example of an evergreen. It remains green though most of its life.

I loved spotting the new growth while I was out walking through the forest recently and zoomed in from above.

In botany, an evergreen is a plant which has foliage that remains green and functional through more than one growing season. This also pertains to plants that retain their foliage only in warm climates, and contrasts with deciduous plants, which completely lose their foliage during the winter or dry season. Source

Gum trees are a whole different shade of green

Yes, gum trees can be classified as evergreen, although it’s debatable as to whether they’re actually green or a dirty green. Australia has a different colour palette to most other places.

This collection shows some of my favourite evergreen gum tree shots:

I love the detritus from these red flowering gum trees, after the birds had got into them. Now that’s colour!

Becky’s Squares – Day #18

Becky’s square theme for July is Trees – here’s a link to her post today – it’s a monthly challenge where Becky posts a square photo every day and invites us all to join in, either daily or spasmodically as the whim takes us! I’m posting spasmodically although I seem to have got into the habit of posting almost every day so far, it’s been great fun! The only rule is that the main photo for the post has to be a square and there’s absolutely no pressure to join in every day 🙂

All my #TreeSquare posts for July can be found here

The theme for #SundayStills is under the trees this week. Make sure you visit Terri to see her post and her wonderful photos.

Next week Sunday Stills has a colour theme of Geometric.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a moment enjoy these trees with me. Your visit are always welcome.

Debbie 🙂

  1. I had no idea that gum trees were evergreens, but then I didn’t realize they were eucalyptus trees either. We had tons of them in our yard in CA, but in my mind evergreen trees have pointy leaves. Great post for evergreens and for getting me out of my tight evergreen box! Being in a pine box is not a good thing!

  2. I love your above shot of the growing pine branch, Debbie–very inspired! Those gum trees are huge and quite majestic…are those eucalyptus trees as we call them in the US? The red flowers look truly amazing, what a cool sight to see!

    1. That shot of the pine was an afterthought Terri, it really appealed to me with the sunlight and new growth. Yes they are eucalyptus trees, I should have used their correct name.
