Three chocolate croissants and impending grandmotherhood

What do three chocolate croissants have in common with my impending grandmotherhood?

Let me set the scene for you: a bright yellow kitchen in a cosy French house set in the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains), just up the hill from Mazamet, where the bread man drives by selling his freshly baked wares and we tumble out of bed to the sweet smell of croissants…..

Yes that was the start to my day! And it just got better as the day went on.

Ages ago I wrote about our Grandparents in Waiting status and mentioned the fun app I was given access to, which told me what the baby was up to and how it was growing week by week. It’s been a great way of staying in touch with my daughter and Spud, while we traipse around the world. Thankfully we’ll be home soon and I can see the growing baby bump for myself rather than through the camera during a facetime chat.

The most fun part of the app though is the comparisons of the baby’s size to other items – fruit and vegetable, weird-but-cute animals, fun & games and Parisian Bakery items. You must admit this makes the idea of pregnancy a lot more interesting! I had nothing like this when I was pregnant with my daughters, I feel like a whole new world has opened up to me.

It just so happens that as I sat in Shelley’s cosy kitchen in France, eating croissants for breakfast, the app told me that Spud was now the size of three chocolate croissants, a cauliflower blossom, a junior tennis racquet and a ferret. Not all at the same time of course –  I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a pretty random list!!  None of these sound anywhere near a similar size to me, what about you?

So we are on the countdown to the end of our odyssey and although I don’t want it all to end, I am keen to see my daughters and family back home.  The baby is due to arrive within a few weeks of our arrival home and I’m thankful we’ve timed it so well, (pure luck). I’m thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to spend so much time with my daughter in England and will miss her dreadfully when we leave. It just means we have to start planning our next visit!

Our last big adventure, before heading home to Australia, has us staying in Mazamet with old friends Chris and Shelley, and seeing the Tour de France go through the town. It’s been a long held dream of the Mathematician to see a stage of the race and this year his dream has come true, thanks to good friends and a chance comment early in our holiday and never letting a chance go by!

Remember my recent post Never let a chance go by, well this is a prefect example.

So here we are in France, with good friends ready to be a part of something special. We’ve concocted a special banner, with some help from a seriously talented artist, and you’ll just have to tune in for more information later on….

Our croissants are long gone now but the good news is the bread man comes by again on Tuesday!!!

It’s been great to share our chocolate croissants with you 😊  And don’t forget to come back soon to see how we took the Tour de France by storm.

Feel free to leave a comment below. I always love hearing from you and try to answer all your comments 🙂

Note: Spud is the baby’s name until it’s born. We won’t know the gender or proper name until it arrives so it’s all going to a big surprise 😊

  1. Oh so exciting that ‘Spud’ will arrive soon. There’s nothing like this chapter of life. I cracked up at the random comparisons the app made. A ferret? I think I prefer the croissant reference. Best wishes and looking forward to news of the arrival.

  2. You all are having an awesome adventure and YUM, chocolate croissants! Your adventure will not compare though to being a grandmother…just wait and see. So, what will your new grandmother name be? And speaking of that, just wait until your grandbaby says it the first time ♥

  3. Your Odyssey gets better every single day! What an experience to be there today! I love the photos you posted on IG! And I’ll check you guys on TV.
We were once in Paris Champs Elysées for the finals and it was amazing!
I had to laugh about the croissants and Spud!
You’ll be home before his/her arrival, and that’s the best way to get back home, full of great memories and with so much to look forward to!
Still missing both of you here, though!

  4. That’s great that Grant wish has come true. The delivery of bread and pastries are wonderful which concern in many places around France and even in Turkey 🙂 Enjoy Deb!

    1. Whoops, concern is supposed to occur. How I hate self correcting especially when it is incorrect 🙂 Has the bikes gone through yet? Les’s doctor from Mt Maunganui is hanging around down in the South of France enjoying the racing too. Small world 🙂

  5. I am insanely jealous that you will be seeing the Tour de France up close and not via a television. I watch it every year and say each time that I will be there one day to see it. In 2016 we arrived in Paris just after they finished the race. Can you believe it we missed it by a couple of days. Looking forward to seeing pics of spud. How exciting it all is.

    1. You know what, I couldn’t take many photos as they went through so fast!!! It was absolutely amazing to be there. We loved every minute of it. Yes, Spud is the only reason I’m going home.
