I have never….

What have I never been, done, found, thought?

Life this Week with Denyse, has the prompt of I have never...

So I put my thinking cap on and came up with this list (very quickly) this morning, while having breakfast (isn’t that the best way to write a blog post?).

I have never been:

  • skydiving
  • bunjee jumping
  • hot air ballooning
  • inspired to write a book about my life
  • a slow reader
  • a good cook
  • a confident public speaker (but I do make myself do it)
  • a heavy drinker
  • good at telling jokes (I always laugh before the punchline)
  • a particularly patient person
  • known for my dancing prowess

But I have conquered my fear of heights by going on a zip wire

I have never done:

  • had a tattoo
  • broken a bone
  • made any money from blogging
  • had a post go viral
  • sang karaoke
  • danced on tabletops
  • run a marathon
Run quote

I have never found:

  • the fountain of eternal youth
  • the gold at the end of the rainbow
  • life to be easy
  • the confidence to do lots of things that scare me
  • the perfect age (but I’m getting closer)
  • a love to eclipse the love I have for my grandchildren
Family love

I have never thought:

  • of myself as brave or courageous, but apparently I am
  • I suffered from over-confidence, despite what some people might think
  • I am an inspiration to anyone
  • I am funny, but once again, apparently I am (to my daughters at least)
  • life was meant to be easy
  • teachers were valued enough
  • I would end up teaching in a men’s prison (but I did for 22 years!)

So that’s just a quick ‘off the top of my head’ list for I have never, but on the flip side I have done a whole lot of:

  • travelling
  • adventuring
  • trekking/walking
  • cycling
  • mothering
  • grandmothering
  • loving
  • smiling
  • driving
  • reading
  • running
  • blogging
  • watching
  • writing
  • putting myself out there
  • complimenting
  • following
  • drinking (tea)
  • photographing
  • supporting
  • donating
  • trying
  • enthusing
  • staying positive

That’s me for I Have Never… what about you?

Is there something you haven’t done yet but you wish you could?

Have a great week ahead and thanks Denyse for another great prompt that got me thinking and writing!

    1. Yes you are a real inspiration for so many of us Sue, with your marathon running, well done on such a great time! I really enjoyed our chat and am looking forward (nervously) to hearing it on the podcast. I like these kind of posts, they make us think 🙂

  1. I could echo a lot of your “I have never…” statements. I guess one of the things I have never done that I would like to do is to run a really long race – 50 miles or more. Of course, that would be a very slow proposition right about now. Bungee jumping, hot air balooning, or skydiving – no way!

    1. Thanks Laurie, I too would like to run a long race but somehow I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon! Wishing you well, and slow is good in my opinion 🙂

  2. Loved that list…sorry it made you late on a Monday morning. My son took his 4 ziplining last weekend and he had a go too. Even the younger two (5 and 7) gave this a go. Good on them…and you!! I once went quad bike riding. Loved it.

Thank you for linking up for LifeThisWeek and I hope you join in again next week, where the optional prompt is 42/51 Self-Care Stories #6. 19.10.2020. Denyse.

    1. No drama, it was a fun post to write! I didn’t enjoy quad biking at all, I was the slowest in the group and felt unsafe the whole time, yet I can go zip lining!! 😂

  3. I don’t think you’ve missed out on much of importance!! We ziplined in the Dominican Republic. I did fine for the first 7 stations and then had a panic attack on the 8th station. Almost didn’t complete the course. Not sure what that was about. Coming to my senses momentarily??

Looks to me like the things you have done are the important ones. Life well lived.

    1. Thanks Leslie, so glad you’ve been zip lining too although it wasn’t easy for you by the sounds of things. I was very brave when I did it and tried not to think too much just go with the flow!! I had fun writing this post 😊

    1. Thanks Toni, I really was brave and my husband was very surprised I actually did it. I enjoyed compiling this list, although I did it very quickly, I think I covered the main bits 😊

  4. The one that resonated so much with me is “the confidence to do things that scare me”…. that is one I’m trying to work on right now. Just read the book “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway” to see if that would give me pointers.

Oh, and as others have commented… you ARE an inspiration to others. That is a self-limiting thought for you. 🙂 Keep inspiring us.

  5. Nope, I’m not the skydiving, bungee jumping, hot air balloon type either. I have made myself try ziplining a time or two and while I don’t really like it I was pretty proud I could do it.

    1. Me too! Zip lining was a real proud moment for me. My husband thought I wouldn’t go through with it but I did, and actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

  6. Love love love this & might just do my own version for Thursday’s post (if I can’t think of anything else…) I’ve never skydived or run a marathon (and won’t) but have been up in a hot air balloon and a zip line. I have had a tattoo (I have a koru on my hip – a 40th birthday present), broken a bone, had a post (an astro one) go viral, drank too much, sang karaoke, danced on a tabletop…just don’t tell anyone!

  7. You have completed lots of fun things and I don’t blame you for not doing the skydiving it would always be on my ‘never’. My Dad who turned 85 today, did it twice on his 70th and 75th birthdays. He loved it 🙂

  8. Hi Deb – I’m with you on the lack of self-confidence (but man I’m working hard on that one – and hope 60 is going to be my turning point – that gives me a year to get my act together!) And also that grandbabies are the BEST! I also love that you turned it to a positive with all your achievements – which are far more valuable and far more worthwhile than any of your “nevers” xx

    1. Thanks Leanne, I knew you would get it! I just couldn’t leave it as it was, I had to flip it around to what I have done – maybe that says something about me??

    1. Yes Carol I was there for 22 years until I was made redundant when they brought private providers in to do our work, I still get angry about it! Your son must have a rewarding and challenging job, I take my hat off to him.
