Be a Seeker of Light #SundayStills

Seeking Light

Sunflowers do it well.

They seek the light (sunshine) and this little one made life much harder for itself but it made it! That’s perseverance right there.

Lighting up the world with your own light

There is always light. If only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it.

Amanada Gordon

I love that quote – If only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it. Doesn’t that say it all?

It’s hard at times to be a ‘light’ but thankfully there are those willing to be a light for us, a beacon of hope, of positivity in a world that often feels weighed down with negatives.

I’m grateful for all those cheerleaders in my world who encourage, support, lift me up with their words and in return I hope I can be a ray of light for someone at some stage in my life.

Walking in the light

Nature does light well and I love nothing more than walking, cycling, being in the light. Here are some of my favourite photos featuring light – some old, some new. They all remind me of the power of light to lift my mood and make me smile. The light is like hope.

Light of my Life

It’s the Mathematician’s birthday today and as we’ve been together for well over 40 years I will say he’s the light of my life – along with my children and grandchildren of course. Happy Birthday!

Sunday Stills

Terri’s Sunday Stills photo challenge has the prompt for this week ‘Seeking Light‘ – you can read Terri’s post here.

I’m sitting writing this post and it’s raining cats and dogs (after a few HOT days), it’s a lovely reminder of how much I appreciate light in my life. I love colour, brightness and warmth. But I understand all too well that you also need the rain, grey skies and cold to be fully whole. Life is a real rollercoaster at times isn’t it?

All my Sunday Stills posts can be found here – I’ve been doing these for quite some time now!

What about you?

How do you seek light in your life?

I hope you’ve enjoyed my take on this prompt, I probably went a bit philosophical but these were the thoughts and the direction the prompt took me in. I always listen to my inner voice 🙂

In love and light. (I’ve never used that phrase before in my life!)

  1. Thoroughly enjoyed your light-filled post, Debbie. I love that your optimism and cheerfulness shine through so clearly. Whenever I see sunflowers on my outings, I will think of you.

Happy belated birthday to the light of your life – the life & love you share is inspiring and I aspire to the 4 decades you have shared already!

  2. I see the light in yours and G’s faces in every photo! Loved seeing all your outdoors and indoors pics. Without light of some kind I know I am sadder…so I too am a seeker of the light…not in a religious way but it can be spiritual. Denyse

    1. Yes Janis, I just had to use that sunflower pic and as soon as I saw the prompt I knew I would include it 🙂 I’m glad you thought the same thing. January babes rule apparently!

  3. I love all the warm colors you shared along with the words of wisdom – definitely brightened my day! Happy Birthday to your hubby too. That photo of him with his hair back in the day reminded me of my husband. So did the crooked sunflower – my hubby tells me a tale of when he won a contest for the most uniquely grown sunflower which had been broken off by a neighborhood ‘friend’ when they saw how good his sunflower was growing. Ah, gotta love the memories that make up our lives! 😍

    1. Yes memories are always fun Shelley and that old shot of Grant with his long thick hair is a classic, which gets a lot of smiles and comments from friends. How rude that someone broke off your husband’s sunflower!

  4. Hi Deb – I always see you as light and bright. As I read the posts from this prompt it keeps reminding me of my “Live Lightly” WOTY because being light and sharing your light is so important in our world today. Also looking for the light when things seem gloomy (or rainy).

    1. Hi Leanne I thought of you and your WOTY as I wrote my post! Thanks for your kind words, I try to be light and bright but I also know (as you do) that life has many sides to it and we sometimes have to look for the light!

  7. Sunday night here, Debbie–happy birthday to your hubs! Jan 30th? Great shots of him through the years. Lots o’ January birthdays! Very cool. I just love that resilient sunflower–they are a tough breed aren’t they? Your other shots of sunflowers brought me joy! I can’t wait until April when our wild sunflowers start popping out. Your light gallery is fantastic! I’m glad you could share this week–seems you’ve been a busy bee!

    1. Thanks Terri, yes I’ve been a very busy bee 🙂 but I really liked the prompt and was determined to put something together and it literally wrote itself! Yes Grant’s birthday is Jan 30. Sunflowers epitomise light and strength to me, hopefully yours aren’t too far away – April will be here before we know it!

    1. Oh thanks so much Sue, I literally just put it all together like a stream of consciousness writing exercise so I’m glad it came across OK. Your kind words are very welcome and much appreciated. Grant says thanks for the birthday wishes.
