Hello friends
I can’t believe we’re here at the end of another month!
Which means it’s time for another edition of What’s Been on Your Calendar #WBOYC, where together with friends and co-hosts, Sue, Donna and Jo, we share what’s been happening in our worlds in a monthly wrap-up post. You’re very welcome to join in.
One of my calendars had these words of advice – so true:
I must say April in Tumbarumba is a wonderful time with warm sunshine during the day, crisp nights and mornings and amazing autumn colours. Just beautiful!
April activities can be summed up:
Autumn delights
Playing with my grandchildren
Rotary service
Intrepid adventurers
Live, laugh, love 🙂
Just for fun I’ve added a weekly summary for each week. Please note most of these activities were relatively short, so although it might sound busy it really wasn’t too much!
Week 1 summary
Monday 1 – Sunday 7 April:
- Easter Monday – family visitors leave 😦
- Rail Trail visitors
- I got my DNA results back!
- 4th Birthday of our Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail with morning tea at local cafe
- Rotary BBQ at high School
- Functional weight training sessions during the week (M/W/F) plus pilates and step classes
- Body scan to finish off the Fierce and Fit challenge – I made good progress
- Kokoda trekkers bbq at home – checking their packs and cutting/shaving their hair
- Family Word a Week photo challenge chat – half hour catch-up over zoom – variety was the word for this week
Week 2 summary

- Enjoy the weekend with my daughter and grandchildren
Week 3 summary
Monday 15 – Sunday 21 April:
- A few days of looking after 5yr old Emilia which included bike riding, trampoline park, shopping, morning tea, a visit to Cockington Green (a miniature village), books, yoga, limited screen time, cuddles and general play with 3yr old Zach
- My last day spent in Canberra with my daughter and Emilia included morning tea out, a pedicure and a traumatic farewell from Emilia – she begged me to stay longer!
- Drive to Mum’s at Tumut (2 hours) to stay until Sunday. Lots of admin to sort out and walks in the sunshine plus endless cups of tea!
- Glorious autumn weather
- Home to help on a Rotary bbq at the local Greens’ football games
- Family Word a Week photo challenge chat – half hour over zoom – water was the word for this week

- I wrote a few blog posts, read other blogs and made comments
Week 4 summary

- Back to strength exercise sessions (M/W/F) plus pilates, walks, a 23km ride on our rail trail and lunch with friends
- Rotary meeting – a casual social evening
- My Deborah name day – on 24/4 – ever since our Hungarian exchange student told me that was my name day I’ve embraced it! See my photo below 🙂
- ANZAC Day – attend the march and help with triobike organisation for elderly veterans
- Visit Mum taking my home-made ANZAC biscuits to share – thanks to Jo for the recipe
- The Tumba2Kokoda trekkers return in early hours of Saturday morning – it will be great to have my husband home and to hear his stories (it was his 9th time doing the Kokoda Track since 2007)
- Family Word a Week photo chat – a half hour catchup over zoom with Photographer’s Choice (as X to hard to find photos for) as the theme for the week. We’ve been doing these family Word a Week challenges for a few years now!
My posts in April

- Getting my DNA tested
- Tell Us About info and Tell Us About…Personal Style (a great prompt from our very own Sue)
- What’s on Your Bookshelf update
- Earth Day and a Sculpture Walk

Thriving on…#WOTY
My word of the year is THRIVE and I’ve realised some months are more suited to thriving than others!
In some ways thriving was minimal during the month, for reasons I won’t bore you with, but hey I’m still standing and I’m smiling 🙂

Drat!! Was sure I would make the link-up this month, but alas I missed out again. I probably (definitely) need to make my Sentence a Day/What’s Been on My Calendar posts shorter but so many times they have really helped me remember what happened when.
Sounds like April was a happily busy month. Glad you had some special time with Emilia. Doesn’t it just break your heart when your grandbabies beg you to stay? My 4 year old grand has taken to wrapping her legs around my leg when I leave. My 2 year old grandson cries and cries. Hearbreaking.
Followed your links to learn more about Kokoda and ANZAC and an ANZAC biscuit. Kokoda sounds like a real character-building experience!! Glad you experienced it once but can completely understand that once was enough.
Love the wide-legged linen pants look. You look comfy and chic!!

Hi Leslie, lovely to hear from you. It’s hard to write these posts sometimes and I often start earlier in the month and make additions as I go just so I can get it done in time!
I’ve worn the wide leg pants today with a red/orange top and felt very chic indeed!
Thanks for your visit and hope all is going well xx

We have very similar DNA Ancestry results, except I don’t have Basque or Aboriginal. I do have Italian, but the rest are the same. Lol. It is so interesting to do family research!

I’m exhausted reading about your month Deb, but sounds like there were lots of highlights and family time. Rotary is keeping you busy too. Reminds me of how much I loved being a Rotarian back in the day

Hi Deb – a lovely full month – and I always like the fact that I can find you in the photos so eaasily because you’re always so bright and colourful and smiley. Glad you survived Grant’s absence and that he’ll be home soon – and that his trek went so well too. x

Thanks Leanne, I hadn’t thought of it that way, I like that I’m easy to spot in a photo 🙂
I’m sitting up waiting for them to arrive back in time as I write this!

You have had a very full week! You are also wise to have stayed in your home and traveled to your children. We uprooted ourselves and moved to be closer to them. That was quite nice while the grands were little, but now, they’re big, and we’re a bit redundant. On top of that, we’re still fish out of water here.
I’ve never heard of a name day. I’m going to do some research to see if I have one! Then, I shall certainly celebrate it! I will link up tomorrow after my post goes live.

Thanks Marsha, we haven’t ever thought of moving to be nearer to our children as we wouldn’t know where to choose, they are all over the place!! I can understand some of how you must be feeling having moved to be nearer your children and grandchildren, it’s hard sometimes isn’t it?

A big and busy April for you Deb…but then again you did want to fill in those days and nights your G was away and I believe that today might be home time for him and you get to enjoy the reunion.
It sounds like you might just want a wee bit of ‘me’ and ‘solo’ time though meeting your needs…always tricky finding the balance.
As for granddaughter’s weeping when you leave…hard but a sign of an incredible relationship.
I am about to welcome 4 of those people here for a play morning.
See you!

Thanks Denyse, I’ve enjoyed a few quiet days at home this week and am feeling OK. Grant returns tonight/early tomorrow morning and it will be good having him home. Your time with your grandchildren looks like fun and I’m so glad you are able to enjoy seeing them these days.

Another great month for you Deb and I like the way you broke up each week and wrote what you were doing and where you were ‘thriving’. The wide-leg pants look great and something different to what you normally wear. Thanks for being YOU and being such an inspiring co-host for #WBOYC? Have a great May – can you believe it!

Hi, Debbie – Even if many of the activites you mentioned here were short, your April does sound like it was very ‘full on.’ I love that you always live life to the fullest — regardless of what is happening in your life. I greatly look forward to catching up soon. You are a true inspiration!

Thanks so much Donna, there’s a lot going on that people don’t ‘see’, so I appreciate your understanding and support. We just do what we have to do don’t we?
