But first a quote…

This quote sums up my Word of the Year – JUMP – and with the passing of Eddie Van Halen this week I thought it was appropriate.

Jump quote
Jump quote

Van Halen’s song Jump has inspired me during the year and all my monthly posts are based on the theme of jump in some way – not to mention my own attempts at jumping!

Watch out for my attempt at replicating this signature jump!

My Shout Out(s) this week go to….

1. Anh Do’s Brush with Fame featuring Deborah-Lee Furness

Anh’s Brush with fame is an Australian television series, first broadcast in August 2016. The program features comedian Anh Do painting a portrait of a celebrity while interviewing his subject. He is an accomplished painter and has a lovely way with his guests, getting them to open up to his gentle questioning. It’s now up to its fifth season in 2020 and is always a great way to learn more about his subject.

I love the bit at the end when we see the painting revealed, it’s always a high note, especially the reactions of the person he’s just painted. It is often quite emotional.

Last week Anh was joined by Deborra-lee Furness who shared her trailblazing journey to Hollywood, her whirlwind romance with Hugh Jackman and the drive behind her quest for adoption reform. She was a mighty guest and his painting (which are always huge) was fabulous.

Shout Out to Deborra-Lee for being so frank and open in her chat and to Anh himself for sharing his monumental talent. We can all learn something from these types of interviews.

2. Podcast thoughts

Then I listened to a Mama Mia Out Loud podcast where they took umbrage, rightly so in my opinion, at the fact that Deborra-Lee is considered ‘lucky’ to be married to Hugh Jackman.

This was one of the points discussed in Anh’s interview with Deborra-Lee. I agreed with them – Hugh is very lucky to be married to her. In fact they are lucky to have found each other and to be happily married in an industry not known for long and happy marriages.

Shout Out to the Mama Mia podcast panel for making such good points.

3. And just for some fun – Hugh Jackman as you’ve never seen him before!

I laughed out loud at this advert for R M Williams boots, featuring Hugh Jackman!

Are you keen to share something? I hope so – all you have to do is leave a comment or a link!

Has someone done something nice for you, have you witnessed a random act of kindness, have you read something interesting or watched a good movie lately?

Anything really – it’s over to you!

As always, feel free to share and get the word out there #ShoutoutSaturday

Thanks again for all your support, it’s much appreciated.

Deb 🙂

  1. Hugh Jackman did crack me up, Deb. Thank you for the laugh out loud 😁
My Shout Out is to our inspirational friend Sue, from Women Living Well After 50. Sue just completed another full marathon! I just read on Instagram her quote “My third full marathon at 63 and I took almost one hour off my time from my second marathon two years ago.”

    Wow! Congratulations, Sue! 🙏❤️

  3. Hi Deb – I’ve always had a soft spot for Hugh – ever since his Corelli days when he first met Deborah-Lee. I think they make a wonderful couple and I love that they’re not stereotypes of the glam moviestar variety – they each have their strengths and keep reinventing themselves – something all married couples can learn from.

  4. Van Halen is the music I grew up listening to. Eddie Van Halen’s passing is another in a long list of things that make this one of the worst years ever.

  5. Hi Deb, they are a beautiful couple and it’s lovely to see a strong marriage, especially in Hollywood. I’ve had a tough week. I found out my brother has stage 4 prostate cancer at age 56, and my mother in law only has weeks to live. She has stage 4 lung cancer. I’ve spent a lot of time on the phone and with family. I didn’t think this year could get any worse.

    1. Oh Christina that’s awful news! I’m so sorry to hear that and on top of all you’ve gone through already this year. I am thinking of you and hope you are able to to take some time out to let yourself process all this. It’s been one hell of a year in so many ways for lots of us. Take care xx

  6. I can’t stop laughing at that video. Honestly these days we all need to be laughing more. Thanks for that Deb. Speaking of laughs I’m going to leave the link to my daughter’s Instagram public page. She has a small business but look for her ‘Tiny Hands’ hilites. She is wildly busy with three kids but these little videos have brought so much laughter. https://instagram.com/ami.and.emme?igshid=1qds8nll3rw4z
