I see ‘Deb’ everywhere I go in Debrecen!
We’re currently in Debrecen, a large city about 2.5 hours from Budapest, with Anna, a Rotary Exchange Student, we hosted earlier this year. It’s lovely to be able to see her again and meet her family. They are keen to show us their city sights before we move onto Budapest, and we’re more than happy to have local guides! It’s a bit different to our little town in Australia.
This is our first time in Hungary and we’re loving it!

Not been to Debrecen but Budapest is a lovely city. So much history and so many places to walk especially along the banks of the Danube and over the bridges. Lovely at Christmas too.

Thanks for the tips Jonno, just on our way to Budapest for a few days now. Sounds like it’s a place everyone enjoys seeing. We’ve been lucky with the weather too, it’s been very mild.

It looks wonderful Deb – we visited Budapest briefly when we did the river cruise that ends there, but it was really wet (our only wet day) and I wasn’t well, so I have nothing to recommend – other than it looks very pretty at night from the river!

Hi Debbie – How exciting that you’re in Hungary. I was in Budapest about two years ago and loved it. Some of the sights that I’d recommend: Castle Hill (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Fisherman’s Bastion, Hungarian Parliament, the Great Market Hall, Heroes’ Square, walk or do boat cruise along the Danube, take a thermal bath (I went to Gellert baths), and try Hungarian goulash (a stew). Have a wonderful time! #MLSTL

It’s very exciting Natalie and we’re really enjoying ourselves! Thanks for the tips , I’ll add them to my list. We’ve had home cooked goulash and it was delicious. And we went to some thermal baths last night, so relaxing. Glad to hear you enjoyed it all too.

Budapest and Hungary- it sounds amazing! We have also had exchange students and it is so fun to catch up with them. they can also take you to places you would have missed otherwise. Have a fabulous time!

Yes Michele the connections we have made over the years has been priceless. It’s a lovely way to see new places and catchup at the same time.

Lovely you have been able catch up with your exchange student Deb. We also hosted many, and I love it when we can catch up. I know the exchange students love it also as my daughter was one. Great for you to spend time in Deb City #MLSTL Sharing

OOOOO I saw you were heading to Budapest. Will be interested in what you do see etc. We will be there next July 2020…I know to do the baths….thats supposed to be good. #MLSTL

Hi Bree, it’s been amazing so far. We did some thermal baths last night and it was a delightful way to spend a few hours. I’ll try to write up our visit, if I can find the time. I’m trying to post photos and stories to my Facebook page and Instagram as I go but it’s time consuming as you well know!!
